I give that kid all the credit in the world, but let's face it, he alone isn't going to change a damn thing. This country is too worried about OTHER countries and not this one. Besides, we have a war on drugs, crime, hunger, AIDS, etc, but no war on homelessness. Why? There's no money to be made from the homeless. There's nothing to tax them on and since that's the case, the gov't basically said "FUCK YOU" to them. And it's not really homeless. It's houselessness. That's what these people need. Visible structures. A home is a state of mind.

Not true. Look at all the people that have made a difference in the world. It starts with one person and grows form there. Plenty of peopel in the US are worried about what goes on here.
I respect what you say, but really think about it: this country would rather spend millions of dollars on some foreign country, let's say...Iraq for instanceand help build them houses so their people can have a place to stay, meanwhile our own people are living in boxes under the bridges or in dumpsters. Yes I do agree with you that one person can make a difference, but when it comes to our own people, we have a thing called NIMBY: Not In My Back Yard.
George Carlin had the best idea for homelessness: we have more than enough space in this country for low cost housing.....golf courses. We have around 18,000 golf courses in this country. And golf, being such a boring activity as it is (it's not a sport),is mainly for rich, white guys to gather together and pretend they're masters of the universe. I'd rather build homeless shelters or low cost housing on that ground than waste it on a such a boring activity, but heaven forbid that we actually try to help poor people in this country. We'd rather use the money on foreign nations and help build golf courses.
You know why we are in Iraq. It was not to help them build houses. There are a lot of ways to fund programs to help the homeless. I know this may sound mean, but I do not think any person that is in the US illegally has the rights to school, welfare or medical. Those are from the legal US citizens. If we did not have to foot those bills we could take care of the homeless and a lot more.
