I remember when a couple of friends and me went to visit the Czech Republic... I was voted the language guy. I got three books to handle situations and printed out a paper for every of my mate for essential situations

One of the important ones is: As a german, do not talk in german to waiters and so on. We have invaded them in WW2, and did massive damage. Almost every family has a history of bad, bad things happened.

So, as an example, if your meal is not cooked as you wanted it, better not send it bad to the kitchen. You can bet that every cook and waiter will spit on it before you get it back.

Ask in as back as you may be in czech lingo, and you will be surprised how well you will be treated.

I remember when we were on our way home, we went into a railway station, and, every one of us had a big backpack. We dropped those beside the deserted billiards table, and the waiter came and told us to remove them.

I got one of the books out and wrestled with the wording, asking if we could let them stay there for just 15 minutes.

He was all smiles and said, 'No problems', and what we want to order.

Basically, it's all give and take :)
