The Captain

I heart porn!
Just wait until the new telescope is up and running! We will see stuff that Hubble couldn't focus on!

I can set my own custom title!
Used to love this stuff just don't get time no more.So I like things like the Hubble telescope and hope someone soon will come with a way of getting even closer looks. At some of these galaxy's and planets.

There are plans for a new telescope that will be I believe 4 times more powerful than Hubble is. I'm not sure when its due to become operational, and with the shuttle fleet grounded, everything that needs the shuttle to get up to orbit is on hold.

I hope a university will take over the operating costs of Hubble so that they don't have to deorbit it. HST has to be one of the most important and rewarding scientific instruments ever built. The return on investment as been phenominal and losing it would be a true shame.

I hope they get the mirror right for this telescope (one of the initial problems Hubble suffered from)...

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Normally, I wouldn't think that picture was real Tunsty, but look at all that moon dust on the picture.

I have also appreciated the images that the Hubble Space Telescope has given us. I once wanted to get into astrophotography, but good telescopes are expensive and you need to adapt an old camera so that the shutter stays open hours at a time. I don't think modern digital cameras would work. Much easier just to download the pictures the Hubble gives us off the internet.

http://www.glpbooks.com/oyb/roscope/ Make a telescope yourself. With a little iginuity and elbow grease I'm sure you could attach a digital camera to it and get some great shots, http://www.imaging-resource.com/ARTS/ASTRO/ASTRO.HTM

But I have always wondered what would happen if Hubble was aimed at Earth

I don't think the images would be very good.
Hubble's whole set-up is for the detection of distant low-light intensity objects, the earth would be too close and reflect too much light to get good pictures.

On a related matter, NASA has successfully launched its New Horizons mission to Pluto...

Its amazing what a telescope can capture. The universe is so large but yet can show us beautiful pictures. Just think some of the images the hubble has shown us are galaxys and planets forming that could be another earth.
