Unfortunately this happens everyday nationwide, inner-city schools & suburbs alike, what I can't understand is why there are NO POLICE presence or atleast somekind of School Security Task force for the safety of the Kids inside the School & outside the School when they are coming & leaving the property?

Had there been School Security this wouldn't have happened. now of this happened away from the School I understand there being NO security around, but FFS where is the POLICE presence? If they KNOW there are TWO KNOWN factions of kids that go to the same school who are KNOWN ENEMIES, not to mention there was a shooting between the the two factions earlier in the day, WHY THE FUCK ARE THE POLICE NOT FLOODING THE BLOCK WITH THERE PRESENCE??? thats totally fuckin IGNORANT IMO. :eek::cussing:

For example in Detroit there is the DPSP (DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOL POLICE)that practically follow the walking kids home, the school police in Detroit, are inside & outside the school to help diminish the chance of violence, granted they are not always successful, but most of the time WHEN something does take place, its no more than a a brief fist fight, that gets broken up & most of the time ends without major injuries & NOBODY DIES.

What happened to this youngster is just fuckin despicable. I can't say why or how these kids get that violent, mad, angry, heartless, but as kids we did our fair share of dumb shit.. but I know I was always aware of my actions & therefore knew the consequence when we did something we were NOT supposed to do.

This story is just NAUSEATING all the way around. :dunno:

I agree 100% with your general contention that the breakdown of the nuclear family is at the heart of this issue. It isn't quite as simple nor as demographically polarizing as you both would like to describe however. It happens in all segments of American society. A gay couple who raises a child and teaches him love and compassion and responsibility is somehow more contributory to the problem than a more traditional family situation where the dad is a raging alcoholic who frequently beats the kids and the wife? I don't think so. It comes down to the individual parents and what type of role they are willing to play in their child's development. To me, there isn't much difference between a career welfare mother who lets her kids run the streets while she is smoking crack and some suburban housewife who drops the kids off at the mall every weekend with a fist full of credit cards because she doesn't want to be bothered with them.

Another really bad thing has happened in this country over the past few decades and that has been the lack of any strong extended family for these kids....specifically grandparents. Grandparents can make a huge difference in a kid's life and so many families are now spread across the country that this situation is becoming more and more rare. Kids end up looking for role models in the wrong places as a result.

The nature of today's society doesn't help either. I do agree that the glamorization of single-parent lifestyles by Hollywood and the media are not good. There's a big difference between social acceptance and idolization and I think that Facetious' point about this is indeed very salient in the discussion. Add to this volatile mix the unbridled access to information (both good and bad) from TV, radio and, especially, the internet along with extremely graphic and violent movies and video games and you have a recipe for disaster of monumental proportions. It really boils down to the responsibility of every parent to teach their kids right from wrong, the value of hard work, respect for others, etc. It's really a shame that so many of us are not up to the task.

I hate to say this but I am not bullish on the future. Things have the potential to get much worse I'm afraid.

The problem is that for YEARS now, we've just looked the other way while the underbelly of society has gotten into kids' heads that hurting others and being a fucking moron is "cool" and "hip." Do not assume kids have the mentality and biases of older people. If a child is raised in a loving home, regardless of if is just one mother, the chances that he/she will be a good person are very good. There are many kids who grow up in homes with mommy and daddy and still turn out despicable. You are looking at the wrong scapegoat for this.
