agreed. all his success is at home. a as a converted closer, i think the fatigue starts to set in.
as for the Brewers, they know it was a "rental" when they acquired C.C.
They want to win NOW. they are not concerned with a continual rebuilding plan like the Twins. . . the Brewers want to make the playoffs and keep interest going amongst their fans
Originally came on here to discuss the All-Star game. Lots to say about this. First, the fan voting is ridiculous. . . i am tired of seeing guys having less than stellar years, many of which spend a large portion of it on the DL make the team, as STARTERS no less!!! Between that and all of Asia voting in their players (Ichiro is OK, but Fukudome didn't deserve it) I think its time to change the system. Especially if we want to me the game so important with home-field advantage on the line, lets get the right, deserving players in there!
and the home run derby is just boring. . . all the big names seemingly have better things to do, as they are constantly turning it down. . . lets have a Derby with other players. . . i would like to see some non-traditional home-run hitters, maybe even a pitchers HR Derby?!

My Orioles limped into the break under .500, but things could be worse. Nick Markakis is a stud already and is still developing a power stroke. He's hitting .299, which I expect to climb to around .310 by season's end, and his .401 OBP is 7th in MLB. His OPS is .893, which I expect to climb to .900+ by September.
Then we have CF Adam Jones, in his first full season of big league ball, hitting .281 while still learning the MLB strike zone and identifying breaking stuff. I don't see him developing into the kind of disciplined, high average hitter Markakis is/will be, but Jones will probably hit for more power--30+ HRs a year in his prime. Both OFers will play GG-caliber defense; Markakis already plays a GG right field.
And waiting in the wings is blue chip catching prospect Matt Wieters, who is absolutely raking in AA. He's the best position prospect in baseball, and will be the best catcher in the AL in 2-3 years. We also have some great arms down on the farm, including a pitcher named Chris Tillman who is dominating AA at 20 years old.
So even with the losing record, it's good to be a fan of the Birds.

I wanted the Orioles to take him in the Rule V Draft before last season. We ended up taking some pitcher who I don't think is even still with the team.

I know that, they obviously acquired C.C. to try to win NOW, but do you see that as a mistake though? Personally, I think it was because they still won't win NOW, they're not good enough to beat the Cubs.

I totally agree. Fukudome doesn't belong, and neither does Ichiro, he's having a down year, but he's an automatic starter because every single Japanese citizen votes for him. First off, they should abolish the stupid gimmick of having the winning league gain home advantage for the World Series, secondly, there should be fewer names on the ballots, you should have to have a certain number of at-bats or innings pitched and your stats should reflect the fact that you belong at the All-Star Game.

There's still quite a few holes to fill, like the giant one that Bedard left when he got traded. Brian Roberts has been under trade rumours all season and I totally expect him to get shipped to a contender at the deadline at the end of the month. Markakis is a stud and Adam Jones is playing well, I like Sherrill, but they have a long way to go to be contenders again in the toughest division in baseball.

I certainly don't think the acquiring of Sabathia was a mistake. The Brewers hit a paltry .254 team average in the first half and are still only 5 games out. I think there is a good chance they will hit better in the second half. Plus, have you ever heard of this concept called the Wild Card? The Brewers are currently 1/2 game behind the Cardinals for that and will compete with the Cards, Phillies, Mets and Marlins down the stretch for that playoff berth. And it's funny that you suggest the Brewers aren't good enough to beat the Cubs considering they have done just that in 4 out of their 6 meetings this year, which should make it interesting down the stretch and also if they should meet in the playoffs. The Brewers still have plenty of playoff hopes and things to play for, so why not improve their team?

Not only that, but he also had been totally out of baseball at one point, due to his addiction missing nearly four full seasons. He also makes just above league minimum salary this year, while being two-time AL Player of the Month and arguably statistically the best hitter in baseball this particular season.

You make some fair points. I'm not going to base the Brewers chances on the six games they've played against the Cubs though. The Cubs, Phillies, Cardinals, and Mets (despite last season) know how to close out a season and make the playoffs, the Brewers have yet to gain that experience. The move wasn't a mistake because it didn't make their team better, it did make them better. It's a mistake because they could very well lose both Sabathia and Sheets in the off-season, so unless they win the World Series THIS year then it's a mistake. And they probably won't win it this year.
