I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I hate the term "overpaid". You're simply paid the value of what you're worth....depending on the circumstances that's either market value or intrinsic value. From there, your value can go up or it can go down but normally when a fairly negotiated deal is made it's usually based on some value at the time. After all, the people responsible for paying these people aren't in the business of giving away money. They are paying what the believe they need to pay in order to acquire a particular talent.

Unless you're being paid fraudulently, how can you be "overpaid" in a free market system?

Just five? ;)

Going to the golf course while everyone else is working must be difficult and stressful.

CEO nap time.

I guess now that Bob Nardelli has been "laid off" from Chrysler, those five had to take over. Seriously, Boob had a lot of talent. A lot.

Greedy fucking bastards, the lot of them! And Henry Paulson is one of them!

They may well be "overpaid" or they may not be. After all their salaries are there and are given to these individuals because it's felt that they have some sort of worth to the company and it's also a reference on how the company is doing at that particular time - or how well they've done with this person in that position.

But what I really don't understand is why people actually care enough that these sorts of stories are actually written and magazines that deal with this have to be created to house them. It doesn't make a difference to their life at all. It's highly unlikely that they're ever going to see that much money. So isn't it just another form of celebrity worship? Instead of a celebrity it's a member of the uber-rich.

All this seems to do is breed contempt amongst those who read these stories. But even so they still, every time one of these articles comes out continue to buy and read them.

:dunno:

what the fuck are you talking about? They are overpaid as they don't do a motherfuckin thing!!! The people who do 99% of the work for a company don't get paid shit and do all the work. The higher up the corporate ladder you suck dick, the more you get paid and the less work you do. Its fuckin ridiculous!

What a very socialistic thing to say Legz. Welcome to the club ;).

I was trying to explain what the mindset behind such large salaries might be or in fact is. Which wasn't really the main point of my post but never mind.

It's good to be the king...
every ceo is overpaid imo

Don't you think that's a bit of a blanket statement?

Not every CEO is a Gordon Gekko-type, who wakes up in the morning thinking "how can I screw the workforce today?"

(Then again these days in FO, there seems a lot of knee-jerk posts, imo)

The salary package doesn't bother me, as has been said the pay is based on expected performance of the individual over the term of their contract, fair enough. What does give me the shits is when that individual doesn't perform, and, instead of getting sacked like the rest of us, gets paid out the balance of their contract with a handshake and a better luck in your next job. I'd like to be in a position where I can screw up and as punishment get 4 years pay.

In 2007 the CEO of Pick 'n Pay left the company. He was given a R20 million payout in addition to his retirement.

The workforce, as Legzman so succinctly made clear, are grossly underpaid. They sit every day 11 hours a day serving customers. They are really friendly. They do not see their family much. They start each day at 8h:00, finishing at 7. They do not enjoy holidays, except for Christmas.

They get paid enough to get to work and back, maybe buy a bit of food, and hopefully cover rent.

The people there in South Africa used to complain that the 'blerry Blacks' are always striking.

Now, however, they support them. Now that society is more integrated, they are more aware of the chicanery.

I didn't see United Airline's Glenn Tilton on there...or his whole BOD. Yet speculators keep giving them money. :dunno:

nothingandless

I don't know and frankly I don't care.
who care's?
what about the millions of underpaid people?
i think that is a far more important issue.
