60 years after... remembering Auschwitz' liberation

WankerCounty

Roll a d6.
Europe remembers the liberation of the destruction camp Auschwitz that took place today 60 years ago.

60 years ago the darkest chapter of German history was ended. Reason enough to stop for a moment and remember the fate of millions of jews and other victims that were murdered only for their religious or political believes, their ethnicity, handicaps or sexual preferences.

Let's hope nothing like this will ever occur again.

"The story of the camps reminds us that evil is real and must be called by its name and confronted " Dick Cheney

:( The horrors of that part of history can't be put into words . For the whole world to always remember I think may help to insure it not to ever repeat itself .

You cant really begin to imagine how evil the nazi's where wanting to wipe out a whole race of people and dominate the world, alot of Germans still feel guilty even though it has changed since, i am half Polish (but live in the uk) and still cringe when i see these sights from auschwitz it's makes me physically sick thinking about the way they got familys to think they where having showers and then gas them. :(

I can use Pornography in a sentence!
To murder so many innocent people just because of their race, colour or beliefs is too wrong to be put into words.
:(
It is important for all to remember and learn.

I visited Auschwitz and believe me it marks you to life. A person who faught and fights Nazism brilliantly was and is Simon Wiesentahl. He succeeded to condamn, judge and execute Eichmann. He also faught against the election of Herr Bruno Kreisky in Austria in the mid 70's. He also succeeded to wipe out Hermine "Ryann" Braunsteiner (a former nazi camp guard who killed her victims) from the US after wwII and having her judged in Germany and being sentenced to 20 years of jail.
Extremism has always existed look at Austria with Jörg Heider, Umberto Bossi, Jean Marie Le Pen, etc and etc. Racism isn't dead, antisemitism has grown very significantly the last 5 years. In every country, you have neonazis and 3rd reich nostalgics sad but true. Fighting racism is a long and ruthless fight.

I don't understand when people say lets hope this never happens again. What does that mean? It has several times (ex. Rwanda) and is occuring as we speak in Sudan. But we absolutly love to hate Hitler and Nazism and sometimes we forget about other racial cleansings in recent or even present times. I'm furious with my government on their desertion of Rwanda in the mid 90's and how we have turned our shoulders on Sudan. Racial cleansing should be a top priority in every countries administration. I fear it is not. We still have not learned the lesson of the Holocoust.

Such a waste of lives...

America would want to be careful too and clean up their act. They've been accused and proven of abuse against prisoners in their camps.
You don't want to get tarred with Germany's brush now do you?

Beating up a few prisoners is one thing. (unacceptable in my book anyway)

Attempting to annihilate another group of people because of their religion, political persuasion, colour, is a completely different matter entirely. (also unacceptable in my book, am everyone elses book I should imagine)

What the Americans (and Brits) did to the prisoners in their custody was wrong but it is nowhere near the level of magnitude of the Holocaust.

These are the reasons I would risk my life for. If I could offer a valuable purpose in places like Sudan I would and risk my own life to end these sorrows. It hurts me this much.

You send me to Sudan with a mission fully funded. I'm there. I don't care if I die. I'm no different then the thousands that are dieing now.

I know it's not the same, but seriously, how long or how much would it take to cross the line from beating a prisoner to killing him?
Also take note, since Sept 11th there's a wave of anti-musilim hysteria sweeping the planet.
Even I've been accused of being a terrorist by the ignorant masses simply because I'm Irish.

Anyway we're getting off topic here.
What happened the Jews and other races of the Nazi camps is a horror no real words could describe. We, as the human race, have not learned from it though. Ethnic cleansing and mass murder is still happening today.
