Sounds like another one I posted before, but this case is new:

http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/news/local/052909_Grandmother_Tasered_at_Traffic_Stop

Excerpt:

A 72-year-old woman is pulled over for speeding, then tasered and sent to jail. Kathryn Winkfein says she drives to Austin about twice a month to do her shopping. But on a Monday afternoon, a Travis County Constable deputy pulled her over, on her way back to Granite Schoals.

"Due to being a construction zone, and workers being present," Pct. 3 Constable Richard McCain said, "it was 45, she was doing 60."

Winkfein admits she was speeding in the dangerous strip of Highway 71 and Bee Creek.

"He explained to her," Constable McCain said, "sign the ticket stub, it's not an admission of guilt. It's a promise to appear in court. She didn't want to. She said take me to jail."

That's when the officer says Winkfein exited her vehicle and didn't cooperate.

"She refused to get off the side of the road, he said to her, Ma'am, you're under arrest. She used profanity," the Constable said. He adds she got violent, and the officer used a taser on her.

Winkfein showed FOX 7 her taser scars.

"Here and here. Two places, side by side. It's unreal. It's like an electric shock," she said.

I guess before tasers, this cop would have likely ended up dead by the highway...:dunno:

I guess some here think she should have gotten her ass kicked on the side of the road.

I was wondering where you'd been.

I don't think we've had an anti-police thread for a few days.

:1orglaugh

Being that there's a "Constable" (sounds like a vegetable soup gumbo ) and a "Travis County" tells me that this event took place in the south.
Dem 'ol ladies er rough - n - tough dawn there ! 72 ain't nuttin, mutton ! :D

Care to explain what makes it "anti-police"???

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
Number 1. A lot of older people need to have their drivers licenses taken away from them. They're unsafe. Hell, a lot of younger people too.
Number 2. Maybe she was dangerous. My grandmother, she's dangerous. Only way she'll die is if we shoot her with a silver bullet.
Number 3. Maybe she had a gun. A LOT OF THOSE STORIES TEND TO LEAVE SHIT OUT BECAUSE IT'S NOT SENSATIONAL THEN!!!!

Give me a break...

Oh, I don't know about that. I think a granny with a gun would only ADD to the sensational nature of the story, wouldn't it??

The obvious question is why couldn't your average cop get a granny under control (if indeed she was OUT of control!) without electrocuting her?

It is Texas, I wouldn't doubt it if she had a gun. But these writers are looking to envoke emotion in the general audience while not isolating the reader into a specific audience. A lot of these stories are very bias. Maybe that's what I should have said.

Of course maybe he used the taser on her because she had become a threat to herself and putting her into an arm bar would've caused her greater harm?

She's not dead so who fucking cares? Don't speed lady. And when you do...just do what the cop says.

So many people say tasers and shit are bad. Well I think people that don't cooperate with the police are worse.

Where's the video on this incident ? I think that you'd be surprised how peppy some of our elders can get. If I was a cop, I wouldn't want to lay a finger on some struggling - irate lady, she'd bruise to easily and give fuel & fire to some lurking civvy rights "law-yeah" piece of garbage. :D

The police have not responded to requests (from the news station) for the video.

Your point about bodily marks falls flat too, as she now has marks from the taser gun.

Keep the law-yeahs busy, you know ? subpoena for the video.

What is the age limitation for tasering an uncompliant "suspect" ? The taser mark just might not make a case for police brutality. :dunno:

Conspiracy...
How did an elderly woman become so out of control that an officer couldn't control her?

Excuses and lies from jack-boots. He should resign, if not he should be fired.

His name and picture should be in the paper. :hatsoff:

Am I the only one who laughed when the reporter said "How did that feel?", talking about the taser, only to hear the answer of...

"Unreal. It's like an electric shock."

Umm, it's not like an electric shock; it IS an electric shock.

Also, this story is so vague and inconclusive at the moment. Both parties aren't offering much information as to what really happened. I'll wait until I hear more on it to offer my thoughts.
