Chinese are rational? You are surely aware that the peoples government of china passed a law against (of all things) sparrows? No, but Chinese people are not irrational. States need militairy strength en economic wealth to strengthen themselves and ensure their safety. They can't call 911, so they will try to control their environment as much as they can. And "pride before a fall" is excatly what happens to a lot of states who've tried to reach regional hegemony. Other states will either hop on the bandwagon with the rising power, or balance against it.
It is by these logical assumptions about rationality and the nature of the internal system (Anarchic, power is the currency) that I try to predict chinese behaviour and the american reaction, not by speaking chinese.
For now, maybe. But china must be stopped.Chinese territorial ambitions lie close to China. See Spratley Islands for instance.
Aren't there a lot already? Ever been with a chinese gal? Not all that great in my experience, but each to their own :dunno:With China Rising , we hope to see a lot of Chinese chicks now on the net.

I merely asked if you speak chinese because I want to know how well you understand the chinese mindset.
Do you speak chinese?
Are you chinese? Were you born in china or outside?
My best friend is a housekeeper in a Cambridge university. She hates chinese students because (wait for it) they frequently shit their beds.
Her chinese colleague never complains and simply cleans it up, saying that "their chinese and I'm chinese so it's OK. That seem rational to you? Allowing your fellow countrymen to shit on you?
Or what about the rationality of throwing away baby girls so as to have a boy?
Or what about the stories a chinese ex told me, how her uncle used to arse-rape his sisters on a chinese farm and yet he was still welcome in the family and they even expected her to respect him? How her father used to make her suck his cock and not only did she always retain certainty that her mother knew of and permitted this, but even years afterwards her mother still keeps family photos with her husband in hidden away where she believes they won't be seen by anyone but her.
I understand that china should seek power to protect itself, but she's already crossed the line into being belligerent and aggressive; just ask Tibet.
Frankly the peoples republic of china has shown itself not to give a shit about her people by torturing her own citizens and not to give a shit about itself by indulging in rampant pollution.
Bottom line; you can't work with china, even the usa makes a better ally, so she needs to be stopped.

It's not about Chinese values or practices being rational in the enlightment kind of way. It means the leaders of that nation forced to be rational in order to grow and survive. Let's face it, they're growing rapidly and seeking the borders of their authority, that requires rationality.
Ofcourse the US makes a better ally, we're all (formerly) europeans. (Only sometimes the people across the pond are a little bit wacko, but hey, that's no biggie.)
Territory dispute with Russia and Japan? Elaborate.Well, Guess WikiLeaks made things a little bit easier.
China doesn't seem to care if North Korea gets owned by the South, one more possibily for war exterminated.
Now all we need are the territory disputes with Russia and Japan and the Taiwan issue settled and peace is a lot more likely.
The rivalry will stay though...

People need to accept that China is already the new world super power and that the west is fading. In many ways we only have ourselves to blame, in the UK we closed most of the coal mines because importing coal from China was seen as cheaper. At least they made the figures look that way! Today if you want a good product produced cheaply the first place to look is China. Slowly we are becoming dependent on China, and strong trade links with the west can only provide a positive future.
Thanks for that.The latest:

We should be concerned about the DF-21D, because it was obviously developed with America in mind.

Thanks for that.
At least they've been stupid enough to put canards on their J20 - that means a big decrease in stealth capability.

There's nothing wrong with cheap weapons if the weapons are good.Good point. We can only hope that China will seek more affordable ways, or more expedient designs, that would make their weapons programs less effective. What concerns me in the long run is that, unlike the Soviet Union, China is growing very quickly economically, and doesn't have the tremendous expenses that Russia had in terms of maintaining the Iron Curtain, its enormous defense, and wars in Afghanistan and Eastern Europe. For China, despite its huge population, doesn't have a Cold War to finance. Hopefully, however, that huge population itself may be their eventual weakness.
