Alpha Men : ladies your views?

This is one for the females here.

I do some contract work for a media company.
The company has a sales, design and editorial departments.
The majority of the company employees (75%) are female.

Anyhow, two months ago, a new sales rep started with the company.
He's in his early 30's, conventionally handsome guy.

In the canteen, you can't but hear the gossip among the girls.
Naturally they were all checking this new guy out.

There are several other men in the office who I would think would be far better catches for these women (not me, I'm happily married !).
I asked some of the girls why they fancied this guy in particular.
Turns out that he does UFC (fight club) and this a major turn on for the girls.
They told me that their nickname for him is "alpha male".

What is perplexing for me is that there are other men who are better paid and have better prospects than this sales guy in the office - but the women all swoon with this particular guy.

For the record, the guy is a very nice chap.........no airs/graces.
And good luck to him if he manages to get with the women.

My question is :what defines an alpha male for females?
Looks? Money? Physique? Something else?

While I am not a female, I think being the alpha male has more to do with how that male interacts with the rest of the men in the group than it does with his looks, money whatever. They're probably just calling him the alpha male because he trains in MMA, and could probably whoop everybody's ass if he wanted.

yeah, the term is not really used properly these days. Most people just think that it means a successful guy.

but it really means a male that is dominant and aggressively competes with other men for women's affections, which works in the animal world because he just mounts them and they don't have any say in it. But for human women, usually they don't really find that very attractive. He's more like what you'd call a "Player".
