A few things to consider in the mean time....

Before a college teacher convinces you that exceptionalism is a bad thing, consider what the alternative might be and how that alternative might adversely affect you and your future.

If you have the ability, desire and wherewithal to become exceptional, wouldn't you work towards those ends? In other words, if you knew that you can pull a 4.0 GPA, are you gonna stand down, not study and strive for a 2.5 GPA?

I think the foundation of this country was flawed (the allowance of slavery to keep union, the ignorance of suffrage as a cultural trend) but still we were born from the Enlightnementr movement.

So, I honestly believe that, as a nation and Constitutional government, we had the most potential among nearly all nations. But we blissfully let that potential slip away and we became the epitome of what we originally rejected. We are an empire that governs via corporate interest. We ate our own tail.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

America, or more to the point, "Americans" are really the only global citizens who's identity really comes from WHAT they represent. "America" started as a government spawned from a social contract ("We The People") where the government / Nation exists to work with its citizens. Other countries (France, Germany, Britain), are simply "British" or "French" because that is where they were born (that title exists no matter what government they have in a given century).

The thing is, when the government voids/violates that contract - you really no longer have an entity of "America" (and what it is supposed to represent ), much like a business contract that is breached.
