Pussy, pussy, where are you?
What do you guys think about the Designated Hitter in MLB (in the American League). I think its a good thing because it allows the pitcher to fully focus on pitching and really rest between innings and it saves them from further injury (i.e. getting hit by a pitch, running the baseball, etc.) Strategy is still needed to win games with a DH and you would see no need for crazy double switches.
I have always heard the myth that NL pitchers were better than their AL counterparts but I don't think this is the case. NL pitchers get the luxury of facing the opposing pitcher, almost guaranteeing them 4 additional strikeouts per game whereas AL pitchers have to face (usually) dangerous DH's.
The only reason that I can think of against the DH is not having it will make pitchers think twice before "beaning" a batter since the pitcher will eventually have to bat. Aside from that, I love the DH, what are your thoughts?
