Anti-circumcision Comic Hero Called Anti-Semitic

His fists clenched and muscles rippling beneath a tight blue suit, the yellow-caped character appears poised to take on evil-doers.

But as his name suggests, "Foreskin Man" is not a typical comic-book superhero, and neither is his choice of adversaries: doctors who practice circumcision and Orthodox Jews who support the religious ritual.

San Diego activist Matthew Hess says he conceived the Internet comic series last year as a way to boost his budding national effort to outlaw circumcision, an effort that has led to a measure on San Francisco's ballot in November that would make it illegal to perform a circumcision on a boy under 18.

Recently, though, the series has drawn criticism from those who deride Hess' imagery as anti-Semitic and liken Foreskin Man's confrontation with a sinister-looking Monster Mohel to 1930's Nazi propaganda.

In the comic's second issue, the mohel (a specialist in Jewish ritual circumcision) barges into a San Diego home, snatches a baby boy from his mother, and proceeds to circumcise the infant on a pool table before being stopped by Foreskin Man.

Why portray Jews as cackling super villains? They do not burst into hospitals looking for baby's to circumcise. Why portray Jews in that way?

Debate the issue of circumcision in a comic book form by all means, but not like this. It's quite frankly reductive, pathetic & inflammatory.

Multiculturalism has failed. This tradition is not just something they created in Israel. Many cultures practice circumcision.

Or it's a pretty mild procedure that doesn't really alter one that much, doesn't change the quality of ones life, and doesn't really cause any complications. It's kind of stupid to treat it to the level of chopping off somebody hand or treat it like it's the level of most would consider "mutilation". I would put it at slightly above the level of getting one's hair cut. (Which nature never intended for us to do either by the way and is barely more needed than circumcision.)

It's minor enough that if a parent wants to get it done for their child they should be able to. It is their child after all.

I don't want to get into it too much, but IMO human rights supersede cultural practices. Sure it doesn't cause complications but it all comes down to the fact that the child doesn't have much choice in the matter. They're just supposed to accept the fact that they're supposed to be circumcised for the sake of an old tradition. The question should be: what harm does it do to not do the ol' snippy snip? And the increased likelihood of uncircumcised men contracting STD's is more miniscule than certain people would have you believe.
