Anti-Monsanto protests hit streets around the world

Protesters from 52 countries and 436 cities participated in Anti-Monsanto, Anti-Genetically Modified Foods rallies over the weekend. Activists rallied, marched and held speeches to demand for GM foods to be labeled or banned altogether. RT Correspondent Meghan Lopez was at the March Against Monsanto in Washington, D.C. over the weekend and brings us her report.

You want genetically modified foods labeled, fine. Bring your locally grown organic foods to the market and set them up next those. There is very little stopping people from growing them for their own consumption and sharing. Not everything in the veggie, meat, or dairy groups are monopolized into supermarkets. This stuff can be found at local markets. Farmer's markets are not hard to find. There are lots of flea markets that have fruit and veg stands too. But if the local crops aren't yielding decent product for a decent price, I'm going to get them from the supermarket. Monsanto produces a reliable supply so that I don't have to pay $5 for a head of lettuce or pound of carrots.

I don't know where to begin with the horseshit psuedo science revolving around these asshats..........I mean, hippie, douchebag, protesters. Nearly everything grown by man has at one point been modified by selection, splicing or other means of hybridization. Just more alarmist crap from the same people who claim the sky is falling.

Fuck me, a quadruple post. What the fuck is going on with this forum?

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
My wife buys some organic foods. I think they taste better, but they do cost a fortune. I wish I had the time, and land to raise a cow, and some chickens....maybe a mid sized garden, but that shit ain't happening...and I'm certainly not walking a picket line.

I'll tell you this though, if you put an all grass fed steak in front of me, and put a standard supermarket steak next to it...I can tell you which is which, and the grass feed beef, is the first time I've never used steak sauce.

We've been eating this shit for decades. We still do with everything that goes into canning and processing. We can't and won't avoid it. Wheat, corn, tomatoes. If you can get all of that stuff and make your own bread and ketchup then God bless you. We don't all have root cellars to store for the winters. My apartment complex won't let me raise my own chickens. It's nice living in an area that has 10-12 month growing seasons but we are not all so lucky. Even with all of the bad stuff that Monsanto puts into the food it's better than having a food shortage.

That is because you are a dick sucking, ham slamming, kitten eating, chunk of phlegm hacked up from the stray dogs that eat the grass shit on from the Canadian Geese littering the fine lands of New Jersey. And a poo poo head.

Simple way to make a decent cut taste great. Pat your steaks dry (I get a little crazy about that but it does make the steak carmelize better) with a paper towel and season them with salt and pepper or a good dry rub (make it look like its snowing). Press the seasoning in lightly. With really good cuts I like to saute on med high heat for three to four minutes each side and then place them in the oven at 170 degrees for about ten minutes. Then I deglaze with whatever decent red wine is handy, a little beef stock and some butter. Let that reduce until it coats the back of a spoon evenly and use that as your sauce. Or don't. But always let your cooked meats rest. It makes for a juicier, more flavorful and satisfying meal.

But I digress. I heart Monsanto.

Thanks, I'll try that.

They do make really nice carpet fibers

Fuck Monsanto (DuPont and Syngenta)! Just another example of a large corporation using its financial might and political influence to buy court decisions and roll over the family farmer. Here's a newsflash for any Monsanto fans: if Monsanto's genetically modified seeds happen to contaminate a farmer's crop of unmodified plants, Monsanto believes that's the farmer's tough luck if that lessens the value of his crop... and they believe they then have the right to sue the farmer for having their "patented" seeds on his property. The worst part is, the bought & paid for judges tend to agree.

Read and enjoy:

---Ever since the introduction of genetically modified crops into the food chain, the tussle has been largely between farmers and Monsanto (NYSE: MON ) , which says since 1997 it has filed 145 lawsuits against farmers who've improperly reused its patented seeds, or on average about one lawsuit every three weeks for 16 straight years.

In that time frame, the biotech hasn't lost a single case, even when farmers like the organic growers who had their case against Monsanto tossed last year sued for cross-contamination of their crops. DuPont (NYSE: DD ) , the world's second-largest seed producer behind Monsanto, is similarly seeking to police the use of its seeds by hiring retired police officers to ferret out farmers allegedly improperly using its patented seeds. :)eek:) Defeating the well-financed GMO behemoth has been a losing battle, but that may be about to change.

---Monsanto is Threatening to Sue the State of Vermont over the Labeling of GMO Foods

---Supreme Court Denies Family Farmers the Right to Self-Defense From Monsanto Lawsuits

My father's family farmed for nearly 100 years. When the recession of the late 70's/early 80's hit, he was forced to sell. That was the time when farming was still mainly family farmers, not corporate farmers. Now the private family farmer is under pressure from corporate farmers and companies like Monsanto. And the family farmers who begin using Monsanto's GMO seeds become virtual slaves to that corporation and have to give up the rights that (I thought) the Constitution guaranteed. It's more than just about whether these GMO seeds are safe for human consumption. It leads back to the power that corporations are gaining vs. the rights of individuals.

Where are we now? Whether Democrat or Republican... liberal or conservative:
