I've been brewing beer at home for around 15 years. Not every batch comes out spectacular, but I have a few regulars I make which are always excellent. I love the taste of small-batch and fresh beer a lot more than even the premium major labels.
There is something extremely satisfying about getting all the chemistry, temperatures, bottling, and so forth just right. Also, when I do a batch of beer (I'm set up to do around 24 gallons at a time), my house smells like grainy goodness for a couple of days. And there is something great about going and getting the ingredients at a good shop, the kind where the folks behind the counter know what they are talking about, and you can get into creating your own recipes with their knowledge and quality ingredients. I'm soon going to try a coffee and chocolate porter - a nice, heavy beer for cold weather. It won't be sweet like chocolate, or bitter like coffee, but both flavours will be present.
Now I am trying to figure out how to charge my own 1/6th barrel kegs, so I can have my home brew on tap.
