Any homebrewers out there?

Love your enemies. It'll make 'em crazy.
What is better than drinking a good beer than drinking one you brewed yourself.
Anyone agree?

I've had home brew, but never brewed any myself.

I should look into that ... :glugglug:

No but this has been an interest of mine for many years. I will undoubtedly try to brew my own beer some day. Sounds like a great hobby!

I've always wanted to try it. I know someone who does and he has told me if do it right it can be a real rewarding experience and tastes pretty good. One day I will surely try it.

I've been brewing beer at home for around 15 years. Not every batch comes out spectacular, but I have a few regulars I make which are always excellent. I love the taste of small-batch and fresh beer a lot more than even the premium major labels.

There is something extremely satisfying about getting all the chemistry, temperatures, bottling, and so forth just right. Also, when I do a batch of beer (I'm set up to do around 24 gallons at a time), my house smells like grainy goodness for a couple of days. And there is something great about going and getting the ingredients at a good shop, the kind where the folks behind the counter know what they are talking about, and you can get into creating your own recipes with their knowledge and quality ingredients. I'm soon going to try a coffee and chocolate porter - a nice, heavy beer for cold weather. It won't be sweet like chocolate, or bitter like coffee, but both flavours will be present.

Now I am trying to figure out how to charge my own 1/6th barrel kegs, so I can have my home brew on tap.

I brewed my own with a cheap kit that I got for Christmas two years ago. It was simple..everything was already there; just a matter of cleaning, measuring and waiting.

The beer turned out alright and it made me curious. The idea of experiment with my own brews is very cool, but it's not exactly cheap to get started in a real way. Those cheap kits don't allow that and even spending a few hundred to get my own little thing going just isn't practical these days.

Besides, I'm a whiskey man and, if I were to want to distill my own whiskey for personal consumption, it would cost me nearly 5K a year between state and Federal fees. Uncle Sam and the state would charge me 5K to make a couple hundred bucks worth of booze.

Still, it's a fun concept. A friend of mine from Kentucky brought my a bottle of tomato moonshine...basically un-aged/unbarreled whiskey made from a tomato mash. It was awesome. Last week on Discovery, I saw a commercial about a show with a brewer who makes his own brews. On this episode, he was making a tomato beer. It made me a bit sad.

Is there any risk of poisoning yourself?

When I was younger, I got into a bad batch of a friends father's homemade wine and nearly died.

Have you ever heard of swish barrels? Might be something you want to try.
