Anyone ever watched Scared Straight program on MTV?

Anyone think this is where first offense juvenile delinquents should go if get busted for any major crime? Major crime as in carjacking, gang involvement, assault, rape, or any of that nature. I'm not talking about petty silly things like graffiti, vandalizing, or stuff like that that most kids will usually grow out of or realize later on how stupid they were. I'm meaning the grade school/high school felons.

Would you send your child(ren) there if they were acting like so?

Haven't seen it, don't plan on watching it either... but it looks like it would be a pretty decent deterrent for young enough offenders based on your clips.

Probably just adds shock value to the kids.

The only thing that bugs me about is all the profanity. I can understand the use of it. I just do not like all of that.

Profanity at one point was only to be used to REALLY get your point across. We are definitely at the point where it's excessive use desensitizes us to that idea. But that only leads the evolution to more profanity. One thing I learned in college, which I took the class because there was nothing more, was the evolution of language. It turned out to be one of my favorite subjects. Language is constantly evolving much like species are. So when people get pissed off when a new word they don't recognize is being put into common use, I get a smile on my face.

My point is, what was once profane is no longer and what was never known is now profane. Rinse. Repeat.

At the time when you are that young (this show being 1999 and showing daytime TV :eek it must have an effect. Not to mention most of those kids were white. And the black kids, compared to the ones I knew back in the real hood, they all look like they grew up in pretty cushy lifestyles. They most likely never stepped foot in a real hood. They were probably bullying fifth graders whilst they were in eighth grade. They were all pussy white kid rap listening wannabes from some fenced off suburb. Who knows to be honest. Some seemed just plain stupid. One being that "they seem ignorant" blad white kid who was all getting spat in the face by the one black guy with his "****** spit". He's probably dead by now cuz he never took away the message.

Kids need discipline.
I regularily go down to the local school, pick a child at random and discipline them regardless of what they may or may not have done on the basis that prevention is better than the cure.

I'm quite familiar with the Scared Straight program from college. My undergraduate degree is actually in criminal justice! It actually pre-dates MTV itself! In an effort to be brief, I will break the bad news to everyone.....you know.....the news "they" don't want you to know....Scared Straight & DARE are both colossal failures and huge wastes of money! There is absolutely no empirical evidence that either program ACTUALLY works......and actually there is evidence that neither one works! But, governments continue to waste money on these programs in an effort to PRETEND that they are actually doing anything other than spending money & collecting a salary!

There's a new show on A&E called Beyond Scared Straight. It's great to see these little smart mouthed punk ass kids nearly shit their pants when they have convicted murderers screaming in their face
