how can a facebook friend appear online in the friends on chat on the left of my main fb page, but in the pop up chat on the right hand side of the page they dont appear there?

The left side is a short list and doesn't show everyone and imo is buggy. I've seen on both lists people appear to be on when they are either:

A. Not actually online

B. Online but via a cellphone.

The lists just aren't to be trusted 100% The fact they added 2 lists as a form of redundancy is beyond me as they are both fail.

i have noticed people are duplicated in the left list

i just log out and back in and its usually fixed

Facebook chat sucks, I just stay away from using it at all costs. The people who show up that are online can be both on a device or on a game console or something, long story short, people just pop up at random and the lists are unreliable.
