Hey, that's a good FreeOnes age test. Who on here remembers when Sony was THE consumer electronics brand to have, kind of like Apple is now?

Anybody besides me and Grandpa Meester?

Are we talking about Sony the person or the company because I am majorly confused in my drunken stupor.

I've been getting Sony products for years, including an HDTV and all incarnations of the Playstation console. So, I still believe in Sony, yes.

The PSN has been up and running with nary a hitch for like FOUR YEARS before these asshole hackers came along. Sony had the proper security safeguards in place, so I can't curse them for being negligent. Complacent? Maybe. But not at fault. The network was a closed and fully protected system. But ANY system can be hacked, nothing is 100% secure. Banks get nailed all the time. Someone who is technically skilled, determined and with the right equipment can bust a system open. Hacking incidents are up all over the world. So watch out, Xbox might be next. Your PC might be next. Or the iPad. Maybe Amazon.com. Maybe Freeones. Who knows?

IMO, placing full blame on Sony is like blaming an old lady for letting a thug swipe her purse off her shoulder. Or blaming a homeowner because someone smashed a window to break in the house while he/she was at work. Sony will live and learn and improve itself. Don't let this hacking incident ruin what has otherwise been a great experience (a network which is still FREE to use, by the way). That would be like swearing off eating chicken forever because you once got food poisoning from it. :2 cents:

I haven't really followed the stories of the multiple hacks... just glanced at some stories here & there on Reuters and Bloomberg. But isn't part of the criticism based on Sony's delay in notifying its customers for an extended period of time, after the account records were compromised?

I also read a story about how present day Sony is MUCH different than the company was in the 80's and early 90's. Apparently they had an iPad like device several years ago, but killed it once they couldn't figure out how to market it. Same is true of the iPod, I believe. They were SO popular in the 80's. So that's why it kind of amazes me that they let so much of that consumer goodwill go to waste. It also might be a sign of the clouds on the horizon once Steve Jobs departs Apple.

Cheers but you're totally missing out.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go co-op some dead rising with my friends trying to dethrone Japan as top dog.

You do understand that having your PS3 online isn't just for playing games online, right? It's very necessary when you need a new patch for a game, since most of them are released with glitches these days.

My reciever, VCR and home CD player are all Sony. My car stereo is a Sony too, and it is shit. I am off the Sony banwagon. JVC, Jensen or Panasonic for my car CD player for now on.

Oh, to be sure, Sony's has had some missteps over the last decade or so and has lost a lot of momentum from its hey-dey. Most notably, Sony's highly-touted PS3 motion-controller was waaaaaay behind the competition. When the Wii came out with its innovative controller, it left Sony in the dust. But since most games on the Wii are shit, I've never felt like I was missing out on much. There are other examples, but I digress.

But the PS3 is a GREAT system, with lots of extras that made it worth the investment -- and that includes the PSN. I've been very satisfied withthe product and the company's support over the last four years. Having said that, clearly the company seems in less-capable hands than the guys who struck gold with the PS1 in the mid-1990s. There seems to be a lack of cutting-edge innovation that made the company so very good. If Sony was slow to respond to the hack, it sucks on their part and they could've handled it better. But I don't blame the company, even for an apparently slow response, because there appears to be no negligence -- it did everything right to safeguard the PSN and it still got breached. And remember, Japan as a country has endured a staggering crisis (earthquake, tsunami, nuke meltdown) this spring that has affected every level of its society and economy -- including Sony. I'm not saying this led to the PSN being hacked, but I am saying that sending out prompt e-mails to its customers half a world away may not have been #1 on their to-do list. :dunno: :2 cents:

You should try Pioneer. It's the 'King' of CD players for cars.

I used to have a Pioneer but - as odd as this may sound - they tend to hurt my ears more than Sony or JVC. Jensen gets a bad rep because they sell them at Walmart, but I think they are a good product as well. Aiwa also makes a good car stereo. And really, the absolute in stereos (in my opinion) are Alpine. :2 cents:
