Just wondering what you guys thought of the IPOD?

I'm thinking of getting one, is it worth it?

yes. I haven't listened to radio since Christmas. No f-ing commercials and all music I like. Look into the Dell jukebox, if only for the 20 hr battery. iPod get's ya 8hrs so thats always a worry.

Its all well and good Sony bringing out their equivalent but who the fuck is prepared to convert their whole music collection into ATRAC when all the other HDD players are compatitble with MP3, WMA, AAC, etc...

I'm interested in what Microsoft come out with. I remember reading on Gamespot, i think, that when they release the follow up to the Xbox they might also release a cheap large capacity HDD music player.

2600+ on mine. The library is a great resource. free cd's 3 week rental. I would never have bought the cd's I borrowed from there, but the one song I imported was worth the trip.

Did Apple ever fix the issue of the iPod batteries dying after 1000 charges? I know that was a big story a while back. A buddy of mine has one and he said the replacement battery is like $100 US. That's kinda pricey.

I'm glad I waited for your opinions now. I have just found the new 4th generation IPOD with 12 hour battery life on the Apple store and it is now £50 cheaper than the old one.

Probe, this is what I'm getting instead of an iPod. From what I've read and heard from the internet and people I know, iPod's are good but there's better out there for less money.

Search Function? What's that?
My 20 gig apple Ipod was great in the beginning but now is giving battery problems. Somehow the charge doesn't seem to stay for long anymore. Worst thing is that this started happening when I started travelling for business. Now in order for me to fix it, I have to come back to the States, send it to Apple, and then use it. At the time I thought it was a good investment...but not anymore.

I've heard of this happening to lots of people. Apple makes some decent products, but this just cinches it for me. I'd never buy an iPod from the horror stories I've heard and the costs involved.

I use a Philips sport portable CD player, burn a CD with 100+ mp3s on it whenever I want, it never skips, and I can use my nickle metal hydryde rechargeables a zillion times without any problems. Yeah, it's slightly bigger, but I'm not spending $100 on a replacement battery and $400 on the player. No way.

Girls don't like me.
Why so much talkabout ipod when there are so many other alternatives to look at? Apple have really done a good marketing job! Look at some of the alternative, IRiver and Creative do some fantastic devices. I'm not saying that Ipods are no good but from reviews that I have read they do okay but they never come top. Again I think their sucess it's just down to good marketing!!

Good marketing and poor product performance are a recipe for disaster, and iPod is running down the hill into consumer disloyalty.

The price is too high, the maintenance/repair issues too formidable, and the "chic" design....all combined, a SMART consumer wouldn't touch an iPod right now. No way. Give me a CD ROM, an mp3-compatible portable CD player, and a CD-RW drive any day.
