Appraising Jewelry

Hi everybody.
I have a bag of jewelry that belonged to a family member.
About 40- 50 rings, 30 chains. Mostly gold, at least in color.
Most have stones in them.
I need to find out the values but at least first find out what are the ones with real gold, gems and silver and which ones are crap.

I have separated the gold pieces which have writing on the inside of the bands although I cant make out what most of them say.

Anybody have any experience in this sort of thing?
What should I do to : A- find out which are real
B- find out the value within a ballpark range
C- sell them.

Thanks.

Take them to a jeweler to find out which are real. Even costume jewels can fetch a pretty penny, especially if they're vintage. Then you can sell them on ebay or one of the other jewelry specific auction sites. My mother has done quite well with vintage jewelry in the past few years.

I inherited a rhinestone bracelet, and rhinestones are considered the poor man's diamond. Lets just say the jeweler wanted to buy it off of me instead of clean it.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Jeweler is your best bet. Whatever you do, don't bring them to a Caah-4-Gold/Treasure Hunters type dealer. They're a scam and will offer you 20% of it's real value.
