Are you Democrat Republican or Redneck?

Smallville417

FreeOnes turned me straight!
I don't consider myself part of any political group, but I lean towards Democrat ideals, I am liberal about most things.

Why do people think only us southerners can be rednecks? Look at southern Ohio, Pennsylvania, the eastern shore of Maryland... and Fontana, CA before you pick on us.

Now... only us southerners can be "good ol' boys", but rednecks are everywhere. :D

true, new jersey also, but the correct word would be HICK.

I suppose Hick is the northern version of redneck.

I think so. We have a high concentration of Hick's in Pittsburgh that's for sure. Almost every Pickup or SUV has a rebel flag plate and some form of camo on it.

Wish I knew more truthful history behind t h e rebel flag. I always get the feeling it's a bit racist but I can never grasp its real meaning.

Actually what everyone things of the "rebel flag" is actually the battle flag from the Army of Northern Virgina. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America#The_Battle_Flag

There were 3 offical CSA flags
1. Stars and Bars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_..._national_flag_.28.22the_Stars_and_Bars.22.29

2. The Stainless banner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_...ational_flag_.28.22the_Stainless_Banner.22.29

3. The Bloodless Banner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_...nal_Flag_.28.22the_Blood_Stained_Banner.22.29

What is now often called "The Confederate Flag" or "The Confederate Battle Flag" (actually a combination of the battle flag's colors with the Second Navy Jack's design), despite its never having historically represented the CSA as a nation, has become a widely recognized symbol of the South

Hope that helped a little

Thanks so much book marking all of those links! I love American history, I think it is something that more Americans should be in-tuned to. Much is lost of the course of our many years.

I was a history minor in college, glad to help you any time. It's a passion of mine.

The flag certainly had racist connotations since it represents the Confederacy but it is more of a states'-rights banner than anything. The slavery issue was not the real reason behind secession....states' rights was. However, to the casual observer and most certainly to black America, the flag carries much more of a racist meaning than what the truth actually is.

It most definitely would be a "redneck" symbol but not specifically for racist reasons although I am certain that many who display the flag would include that as a significant part of the statement they are attempting to make. Personally, I admire many of the reasons that someone might be proud of their Confederate heritage but the racist angle is most certainly not one of them.
