A sheriff's deputy was shot here today http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100501/ap_on_re_us/us_arizona_deputy_shot

"Villar says the deputy was doing smuggling interdiction work and found bales of marijuana in the desert. He then encountered five suspected illegal immigrants, two armed with rifles, and was shot.

A search was on in the rugged desert about 50 miles south of Phoenix for the five suspects. Hundreds of officers were involved"
That sucks, but cartels are HUGE along the boarder. There are femicides still happening in Juarez, many of the women used as drug mules. Of course they're illegal immigrants, they're trafficking across the boarder. The people related to the cartel killed him, not illegal immigrants.

It is a huge problem here. That is why a lot of people here are happy the law was passed. The drugs and human smuggling have gone crazy here. I swear every day they are doing story on a drop house and the people being held there by the coyotes.

A veteran sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded Friday after encountering a group of suspected illegal immigrants who apparently had been hauling bales of marijuana along a major smuggling corridor in the Arizona desert...
Deputy Louie Puroll, 53, had a chunk of skin torn from just above his left kidney, but the wound was not serious. He was released Friday night from Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.

I suppose it was too much to think you might actually read the story...I mean, the OP actually provided a link for you...

Congratulations...you managed to be completely wrong in just about everything you posted!

Stop the fucking presses!!!

Who knew cops get shot doing the ever so harmless job of police work.

Surely it's only because the law targeting illegal immigrants was passed and not because drug traffickers are just more dangerouse (no matter where they're from) than day workers standing outside of Home Depot.

Congrats.:hatsoff:

Yes, and since it's always been that way since you were old enough to have ID (you remember, 3 or 4 years back?)...
Maybe it's time to stop with the reefer and sober up...ID is always required if asked for by LE in any contact, like moving violations; and using a credit card for big buys, passing a personal check, etc...has always needed ID.
I guess... not if you're an illegal peon from backcountry Mexico...I see where You Might be upset.

Federal law has always mandated carrying your documents at all times if you are here from another country...passport or residence papers, or green card...so what's new?

beauregard

How far do you blow your load?
Here in Florida, I can be arrested for not producing a valid driver's license or state ID.
Why should it be different for anyone else, regardless of legal/illegal status?

If I go to the UK, am I not responsible to have to show my passport as proof of identification?

WTF is so hard to understand, illegals are illegal because they break the law.
And my son is part mexican, but unlike many others, his ancestors came over and immigrated legally.

Yep, just harmless people wanting to come and make the US a better place...

On issues like this one, far lefties really show that they sometimes completely miss the mark of anything that resembles logic or common sense. I guess claiming bogus "racism" and pandering to new voters is more important to some people than enforcing law, defending the sovereignty of their country, and protecting it's citizens from harm both physical and economic.

I guess some you guys be happy when the US looks just as poor, uneducated, drug-riddden and violent as the Mexican border cities, which is well on it's way... thanks.

What's the point of all this anyway guys...that law is already in place, regardless of your opinion.

You missed the point entirely. Whether he was wounded or killed, it still applies - he was wounded by cartel members. Your hands must cramp up clutching at straws all the time.

So the news here is a cop got shot by some criminals or the cop was shot because these people were here illegally?

Facetious

Their compliance isn't necessary to our reform.
What ?

Frankly I'm not sure what reform is needed beyond enforcing control of our borders.
Go ahead, give us today's relativistic definition of "control of our borders"

These are rag-tag, relatively unsophisticated people traversing barren terrain to get here.
Even if true, which we know it isn't, how is this relevant ?

Beyond that, our social benefits don't attract them here
WADR, another generalization of which we cannot possibly quantify one way or the other...

To your goofy question asking what happens if people defy what is written...their compliance isn't a necessary component.

Laws don't create compliance. That's why enforcement agencies exist. This is news to you?
Go ahead, give us today's relativistic definition of "control of our borders"
You need a definition of that when people simply climb over or crawl under a fence to get here and cause all the havoc your types accuse them of? But I suppose you would (need a definition).
Even if true, which we know it isn't, how is this relevant ?
Are they using stealth planes, sophisticated tunnel systems, teleportation??? Some are smuggled but most of these people simply arrive here via their zapatas. Rag-tag, relatively unsophisticated means wouldn't you say?

WADR, another generalization of which we cannot possibly quantify one way or the other...

Well you're types always harp on these people leeching off of our public/social services. WADR Even your bud "Arbusto" (ya know...shrub) arrogantly claimed they come here to do jobs Americans won't do. We all know the reverence some of you hold for Santa "Arbusto"...if he claims it ...'tis true. Or was he finally "wrong" this time?

There are many legal or illegal issues. The question is you posed with this particular one was whether or not this decision was "right".

Obviously when constitutional rights of US citizens are in question (which is the case whether some see it or not)....it's not simply black and white...which is why we have a court system to settle questions like this.:2 cents::hatsoff:

Point...there are allot of other discussions an issue like this naturally generate if one wants to due fair justice to the issue.
