There also needs to be a better system of immigration in the first place. A lot of people who want to come here to better their lives don't want to or can't wait 5+ years to do so.

Our nation is one of immigration and we should have a good system in place to find people that are willing to play by the rules and getting them into the country efficiently.

For instance:

http://columbiacritic.blogspot.com/2007/03/illegal-immigrant-becomes-world.html

"We had no food. We had no place to live," he said. "I went from pulling weeds to pulling tomatoes, to picking cotton loops to picking grapes."

Why couldn't we get him here ourselves?

You been to America lately? Oh, you live in Michigan. Since you live in one of the most fucked up places in the entire country I have to conclude you are some richboy living in a gated community spewing this nonsense. The place is fucked up. Immigration needs to end it needs to've ended at least a decade ago.

Are you serious? Ad hominems to prove your point?

I also don't understand the hostility towards me. I was simply pointing out that our country does receive some benefits from immigration...we need a system that helps us achieve those and mitigate or eliminate the problem people such as criminals etc...

If you go back for just about every major immigration boom in American history you'll find the same rhetoric and hate filled venom...

Ever hear of the "Chinese Exclusion Act"?

How about how the Irish were treated and other European immigrants?

I know ILLEGAL immigration is a problem. But the harder you make it for someone to immigrate the better the illegal option looks; the inverse of that is also true. It's a convenient out to blame the new guy when the country has problems from top to bottom many of which don't directly correlate to immigration.

My original point also was that we have a history of legal immigration problems. Things like replacing ethnic names such as Jewish last names for what is considered American or "white" etc...

It's not a cake walk to get in and it shouldn't be. But it also doesn't need to be an arduous gauntlet.

Also as my last point for this post you have companies like Smithfield purposely advertising and bringing immigrants from Mexico in so they can work cheap; later they are arrested from time to time by the police. Then more are brought in.

If someone wanted to be a citizen, they can be one legally. It took my friend 7 years to become a citizen. He was in the US for almost all of that time on a work Visa. When he needed to renew it, he would go back to Mexico for a few days to renew it. Then he would come back to the US. He also doesn't like the fact that he waited to become a citizen and other people just illegally come into the country. Anything good is worth the wait..

Legal is fine. But in my town, there are so many illegal Dominicans and they are the kings of scammers! Free everything, they are as lazy as hell, committ crimes, sell drugs, produce system babies like rabbits, overcrowd the schools with their very stupid kids, keep their rented property like pigs, and pay no taxes. How long can a society survive doing this? Just ask California.
