So i found out that my computer is infected with a virus by the name of "Windows Police Pro". Not sure if anyone's heard of it, but its a bitch, it acts as a virus scanner, and disguises itself to look like its part of microsofts' virus protection and it completely screws your system. I was wondering if anyone's heard of this or found a way to get rid of it properly. I'm no computer wiz or anything, so alot of what i've seen about this around the net leads me to believe i may just want to clear the drive and re-install windows XP. No idea...ugh.. :crying: Any help would be well appreciated! Thx.

It basically prevents me from doing anything, a constant pop-up that tells me the windows police pro is scanning my system comes up....probably every 30 seconds or so, i click "end task" and it just comes back in another 30 seconds....major bummer. It prevents me from opening Mozilla completely, and from running any .exe files completely....I actually dont even know what that really means, but this is info i have picked up through various websites about the virus, and people who have had it. Like i said, I'm a novice user really....thx very much for your reply and concern!

^Can you boot up in Safe Mode?? Have you tried a System Restore? The latter has saved my bacon multiple times even with a serious virus intrusion (I stress that).

Sounds like you're gonna hafta take it in. Then have them install Trend Micro Internet Security. That's what I use, and no virus has gotten in yet.

I did actually try a system restore, i can run it in safe mode, but if i try to run it from a previous state i get a message that says that I'm unable to do so, i can't remember what the actual wording was....

1. Malwarebytes is King.

2. Once the malware is gone, then Download Avira to clean out the Viruses.

3. Download ComboFix to get anything remaining and to correct all the Windows errors left behind.

4. Lastly Advanced System Care to correct any registry entries, defrag your hard drive, and clean out useless junk.

If internet is a problem you can download them all on another system and save them to a CD, not a flash drive. Flash drives are easily infected when plugging them in a an infected system

These programs are all free.

OK. Next stop perhaps: perform an in-place upgrade (re-installation) of Windows XP?? You have the CD??

If FreeOnes was a woman, I'd marry her!
I had one like that, it was a right bastard to get rid of...

I ended up having to delete several of it's files, by using the pre-boot dos command.. otherwise it would simply re-spawn the exact same files at every boot up... a right fucking pain

I’m camping on FreeOnes!
Stop going up in those useless free porn site, and you wouldn't get those kind of virus ;)

Year and a half ago, I had something somewhat similar. I ended up doing a total system reformat and starting all over again (which I try to do every couple of years, anyhow).
