AUSTIN (AP) ―
While Gov. Rick Perry is criticizing Washington bailouts, state lawmakers are planning to use $11 million in federal stimulus money to help rebuild the badly burned Texas Governor's Mansion.

".."If we're going to fix it up we're going to have to use stimulus money," said Sen. Steve Ogden, R-Bryan. "We've made a decision to use the stimulus money. This is a good use of it."

Ogden, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, both said the $11 million was coming out of a $700 million rescue package for Texas -- part of the massive federal stimulus pie approved earlier this year by the U.S. Congress.

I guess Perry realizes it's not so bad being a part of the good ol' US of A after all and membership still has it's privileges.

Friday on my mind

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
The hypocracy is the only issue I have with it.Besides that its an ok use for the money as it will create jobs and stimulate the economy somewhat.

But I thought Perry was in trouble in Texas and fairly unpopular? That was what the talking heads said was the reason for his succession talk and bashing the feds ,that he was despearate and facing tough re-election.

Conspiracy...
Well, this wins the hypocritical moment of the day. Probably the week. :hatsoff:

Why does a Governor need a mansion?

Why not a two-storey Colonial or a large Ranch home?
Not good enough?

In Kalifornya, duh RINO govnuh exclaimed (paraphrasing)

Well, if that's the way the voters want it, get ready for the deep cuts in
law enforcement, fire protection, and education !

Only those entities that would have the most impact, huh, govnuh ?
You wanna play hardball, do ya ?
Everybody buy a .357, home educate your punk kid and, well . . let it burn :flame:

Did it ever occur to this g'dam bureaucrat, "Ahhnold", that the cuts should begin at the point where fiscal irresponsibility begins ?
e.g. the incompetent full time Cal. State illLegislature.

protectionist cretins ! :ban:

:D

The pro illegal alien Perry ain't no diffy than Arnie ! You can't even call these guys defectors ! They're posers, pure and simple ! They know no fiscal restraint ! 'Never have never will.

I thought that the bailout scheme, in general, was used solely to enhance the gumments' agenda of nationalizing everything as well as shoring up the union demokratic constituency, no ?

You guys should be applauding RiK Perry !

I wonder if this reconstruction project is actually going out to the cheapest bid (?), ya think ?

Shrill and shill ? and how do you know that Mr. Perry isn't acting in response to Washington intimidation ? You do know that the Bailout entity is used for the purpose(s) of blackmail by now, don't you ?

Amazing how there's always a complaint about one or the other party not acting in good bipartisan faith, yet when one or the other party does act in accordance to good bipartisan faith, they're attacked for hypocrisy.
. . and here Mr. Perry is advancing the dem. party agenda (quite possibly via coercion) and ya guy's complain ! :( Ahhh, politiks :sigh:

Never judge a thread by it's title, particularly if it includes politics.
There are always at least two sides of the story.

:D

Aside - If the gumment is in fact bankrupt and they don't know shit from shinola about balancing budgets, why would you wish to give them additional fiscal responsibilities ? Oh, never mind, it's all about further raiding the working taxpayers' life savings, (redistribution of unfairly accumulated wealth) I get it. "We can't allow perfectly good money to just sit there accruing interest in some private account ! We have to begin shoring up Social Insecurity and Medikare, the other govt bankrupt govt ponzi schemes." :D

You seem to be forgetting the entire context of this story. It was Perry who reckoned that Texas didn't have to be a part of the US if it didn't want to and effectively told Obama to take his stimulus package and shove it...(of course this was in front of a rabid protest crowd).

But behind close doors he'll take the money to repair his Gov. mansion. Now I'm sure even you can even see the irony in his "change of heart". Is it hypocrisy or is this an example of Obama's bipartisan approach starting to influence others?

boobfan

I eat, sleep, and live FreeOnes!
There has been no direct comment by Governor Perry on this.
He has not stated that he approved it.
So who is the hypocrite? The Governor? The reporter? The poster of the article?
