Bans perhaps a little too harsh?

I was recently banned for derailing various threads and even though i won't do it again, i felt IMO that it wasn't really derailing. I was banned for posting just basically links that were jokes, they werent meant to be funny, i just posted them for a bit of fun(is this really derailing). I know that banning sets an example and derailing should not be done,but are some bans to harsh. I wont Do what i did again-let me make that clear- but what i did IMO wasnt causing a thread to completly go off at a tangent. Maybe it did, i'm not a moderator. Also let me make clear that at no point in that message did i mean to annoy anyone or make fun of moderators etc. I'm probably just being stupid but i'm just stating my opinion which i do not mean to offend.

We don't discuss bannings, the reasons for them, or other administrative issues with the members of the board, and they shouldn't start threads about those issues.
