Battlestar Galatica 6-13-08

Good speculations, DreamSparrow. That first quote is interesting. Of course, Roslin and Baltar are the obvious choices. But just to throw out another... Gaeta? He has the guilt of lying about Baltar during the trial. Now he's endured being shot, suffering for weeks, and losing his leg. And they made a particular point about him singing to distract himself when the pain became unbearable, which would fit with both the "howl of suffering" and the general connection between music and Cylons. And he was shot by another Cylon, which would add a poetic element of Cylons fulfilling a Cylon prophecy.

Interesting points. But he was on Galactica when D'Anna said four of the Final Five were in the fleet, so unless she was lying, I don't know how that's possible.

Technically, these ten episodes and the ten that will air next year all comprise a single season. But no, that's all you're getting in 2008. :(

Shit..2008 still has many, many, many months to go....I hate these extended break broadcasting schedules...I hate the fact that most great shows don't bother with repeating shows either in between these extended breaks.. Battlestar hasn't been on since June and I just checked Sci Fi Channel..great, BSG is on Saturday Morning at 3am:eek: WTF?

(TV shows on DVD = the bane of a television viewer's existence)

Can I borrow your virginity?
Isn't there supposed to be one more episode this season? I thought at the end of the last episode they had a promo showing Adama weeping and Saul Tigh saying something like "No, you're the final one?" and the voiceover hinted at a broadcast "coming soon"...

Will there be one more episode or was that a promo for the next season?

There is a "Razor" episode coming out later this year. That will be a inbetweener or show some backstory explaining more stuff.

Peace.

Yep, all because of the WGA strike. My favourite shows were all royally screwed over. :/

I heard about Grace Park (Sharon) mentioning that there may well be another TV movie in the style of Razor, but only that filming would start this summer. I got the impression it would be something added to the 2009 episodes though.

BUMP FOR BSG!!!

It is BACK! FINALLY! The best show on television the past 4 years (sorry Lost, 24) is back for the denouement of the series. Only 10 episodes left in total.

We learned SEVERAL HUGE SHOCKERS TONIGHT. I don't try to leech spoilers for any show that I care about. I want to come to the shit *fresh* with no expectation or primer.

We know the identity of the 5th Cylon!

We know who the 13th Tribe really were! Plus there was an appearance by an old-school 80s Centurion! (Sort of).

Overall...the cinematography of this series has been so far above every other show it's ridiculous and tonight was no exception. I would love to have a poster someday of the image of Starbuck sitting on the beach next to her burning "carcass"....wow. That was powerful.

So much to discuss....BSG geeks...What say you all?

Theory: Dee shows up alive again on the planet and we find out that there's something (someone?) down there able to resurrect the dead as Cylons (just as Cara, Tigh, Tyrol, Anders, & Tory were). In fact, maybe there's just a resurrection hub down there and they're all a previous generation of Cylon.

Man...it was a mind-blower ep....kudos to the BSG crew. I did not see the twists coming.

It is dark though...dark and depressing...

Should we risk the ire of our UK friends by talking about this show (5th cylon revealed, history of Earth, etc.)...I thought this past Friday's ep was pretty solid.

No dont worry it has started over here now, only one episode has been shown but we get the jist :D

Although the 5th if she is the 5th seems like a bit of a let down.

I must admit, I love this show. Usually I'm very sceptical of sci-fi on tv (especially on a rather small channel/broadcaster with small production budget), but BG has really shown me the light, so to speak. ;) What producers, cast and crew of this show have pulled of is really amazing.

I'm glad, that there will be no easy and lazy ending like: "Ok, here's earth, that's it, we're saved, the Cylons were never heard of again, happy ending, show's over!" The makers of this show manage again and again to startle the audience and give the show a certain (shock) value like most recently with Callys murder, Dees suicide or the realization that Starbuck has, as it seems, landed on earth and died there.

However, as good as this series is, I'm concerned that they won't be able to tie up all the loose ends in a convincing way. And the emphasis lies on convincing. Don't get me wrong, a series doesn't necessarily have to tie up all loose ends. A creator/writer can decide not to show or clear up everything and can let the audience figure it out or theorize about it. But BG has figuratively opened so many cans (and some big ones too), that they have to piece it all together again.

I see your reasoning for BSG's applying to LOST, exactly as you state.

I think Kara will become a Christ-like figure to "re-charge" humanity's hope. She will somehow have the opposite effect from what the cylon hybrid predicted. Kara will become proof that humanity does serve a higher agenda than just money, home, materialism...

I think the humans would be wise to allow the breakaway cylons to "tag along" but I'm not sure the cylon jump drive technology is needed because why is there a need to go 3 times further...to nowhere, basically?

This is a deep-thinking show...I can't imagine they will leave the show on an overall, downer, depressing note. There will be some sort of "hopeful" message, I think...

Once again, I'm thinking that the mantra, "All this has happened before, and all this will happen again," is going to end up being the lynchpin to the series. Think about it... right now they once again have 13 tribes: the twelve colonies plus the Cylons. And once again, the 13th tribe is a Cylon tribe. And, once again, its looking like the 13th tribe is eventually going to have to leave and settle their own planet, because the fleet is going to descend into anarchy if they don't. So maybe "Earth" is really just a symbolic notion: the peace that comes from humans and Cylons each pursuing their own destiny apart from eachother.

That is actually LITERAL BRILLIANCE.

Reminder the two hour series finale is on tonight (assuming you're in the US and get SciFi channel)

To repeat my previous comment: "They'll never piece all the lose ends together." ;-)

FYI... there's a 2 hour epilogue movie coming in June 2009... its called "The Plan" and is supposed to retell much of the BSG plot from the Cylon perspective. There will also be a pilot for a prequel spinoff series being released on DVD in late April 2009, with the full series premiering next year. So there might very well be a few stray questions left over after tonight.

If you wish to live wisely, ignore sayings including this one.
So who here watched the finale and what did you think of it?

I thought it was going good until they started to explain everything. It was just fucking weak for a show that's been so good for so long.I really didn't like the way they went out.
