Being human

I never got into this new vampire craze. I hate Twilight and True Blood and all the rest. But I have to say, the UK/BBC version of Being Human is damn good! It really is much better than the U.S. version that comes on SyFy. They've been running a marathon on BBC America since yesterday, and the season premiere is tonight.

It's described as a "comedy, drama and fantasy" show in the Tivo guide. And the UK version does a better job of covering all the bases than the U.S. version, IMO. There's a fair amount of cursing in the UK version too. And yeah, the girl who plays Annie is cute. No cuter than the girl in the U.S. version, but she is a better actress.

I just got 500 myFreeOnes points!
show was lame in UK, even worse in US. Why did they have to redo it anyway, wasn't the original version in english as well. Could people not understand them because of their british accent?

Because of this thread, I checked out the British version and sort of got hooked on it. I enjoyed the season premiere last night. I even Tivo'd many of the marathon episodes that I hadn't seen and watched them to catch up. The British version definitely has more dark, adult humor than the American version. And in the Brit version, right off the bat, we know that Annie's boyfriend is the bad dude who killed her. In the American version, the girl is "Sally", and it's less obvious whether her boyfriend is a good or bad guy.

I'm fairly used to British accents. But when the accents are particularly thick and/or they speak quickly, yeah, the words can become muddled and it can become somewhat difficult to understand some of them.

The only thing I really hate about the British version is the guy who plays wolfie boy, George. Could they have possibly found a more effeminate, annoying person to play that part? Every time he turns into a werewolf he sounds like a school girl squealing. Is that really his voice or do they use a woman's voice to overlay the sound? They might as well have just made him a gay werewolf, because it takes too much "suspension of disbelief" to believe that he has any interest in women... outside of going shopping with them.

Sweet Georgie aside, I'll probably keep watching the show off & on. But the best BBC show right now is definitely Luther! :nanner: That show is hardcore and totally kick ass! With the unexpected plot twists and non-PC approach to stories and characters, it would NEVER be produced or shown in the U.S., if not for BBC America.

P.S. I just looked at the ratings for the American version of "Being Human" on SyFy Channel. Looks like it's one of the few remaining shows on SyFy that is pulling good, and growing, ratings.
