Bernie would have beaten Trump, I'm 100% sure of it. But the DNC was scared he would have antagonised their donors, they prefered to have an establishment candidate that wasn't popular among the people rather than an outsider who was drawing massive crowds. We all now know how it ended

You know those three rust belt states that hasn't been red in about 30 years? Add about 5 more of them going red had Bernie been the nom. Working people and even blue collar Democrats would not have voted for an old commie job killer.

And Bernie actually was one (a democratic socialist but when it comes to the red scare American voters don't care about such distinctions). He'd have gotten buried on that point alone. I think it would have hurt a lot more. For one thing "crooked Hillary" was never proven. And you have to remember, the United States has a deep, abiding fear of socialism/communism. Over the course of my lifetime that has been a constant. Neo McCarthyism is alive and well here. Witness that element of the smear campaign against Obama. We even fought two wars over our fear that the world would be engulfed by communism.

It's still a strong undercurrent here. Look at our hate crime statistics. Jews are overwhelmingly the primary targets of such crimes.

Socialism taken to extremes is communism on the left and capitalism on the right.
At both extremes, most of the wealth is owned by a small percentage of the population.
The degrees of socialism can very greatly, a balanced socialist democracy provides the basic necessities for it's people to survive and prosper, but also allows people the freedom to gain as much wealth as possible thru privately owned businesses.

In hindsight, Bernie would have been a better/more honest candidate than Hillary, but he would still have lost because of his socialist beliefs and because he is Jewish.
If Hillary had chosen Bernie as her VP, not sure if it would have helped her.

It's fine to loathe it. I get that. But a real problem develops when the loathing leads to paranoia, such that we end up with McCarthy hearings, and Viet Nam wars.
Far too many fine americans have been sacrificed on that altar.
