Breaking News: Bristol, the oldest daughter of Sarah Palin is pregnant

It is very unfortunate most of the mainstream TV, radio, newspapers focused on the private life of Sarah Palin's daughter.

Governor Palin has fought the big oil companies in Alaska and raised the tax on them in her first year as governor. Governor Palin not only returned the money to the people, each of the Alaskan received $1,200.00 last year. She also advocates the drilling of ANWAR and approved 500 million dollars subsidy to Transcanada to build the pipelines to the lower 48 states for natural gases.

Her approval rate in Alaska was 80-90% and she appointed both Democrats and Republicans for ethic reforms.

She is new to the political scene and has some personal setback but I will support her nomination as the Republican VP.

Let the convention begins !

You cut and paste that from the McCain Palin '08 website or something?

I just came home after 6 hrs of work on Monday night and felt Obama is right. Family members especially children sometimes do things parents don't like. Bristol Palin has nothing to do with the Election and should be off-limit. But supermarket tabloids will continue to get more juicy stuff out.

More information has been disclosed about Sarah Palin.

New York Times:

On Monday morning, Ms. Palin and her husband, Todd, issued a statement saying that their 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, was five months pregnant and that she intended to marry the father.

Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge. She was 22 and probably a senior in college.

P.S. I truly has been to Alaska 4-5 times and it is a wonderful state !

If FreeOnes was a woman, I'd marry her!
Yeah yeah yeah. The whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. That's the "spin" the republicans are putting on this. We get it.

Although, I have to say, if the situation was reversed and it was a democratic nominee whos teenage daughter was knocked up then the republicans would implement an entire political attack campaign using the issue as a political football. They'd all be saying things like "If he can't control his daughter, how can he run the country?" or "Teenage pregnancy. Is that the kind of morals and values the democrats are teaching their children?"

Did Obama use the same tactic? No. He declared the subject off limits and refuses to comment on it. He showed class.

Bears repeating.
And yes, they would.

Sadly "class" often takes a back seat to the utter lack of same exhibited by the likes of Karl Rove.

Bill Clinton had a public stand against crime. Clinton's brother Roger (who he later pardoned) was sentenced for cocaine charges and tax fraud. Can Clinton still be opposed to crime? Or is that now a contradiction? Can Palin still be pro-abstinence even though her daughter made her own decision and got pregnant?

So you feel Obama has poor judgment on this issue and is wrong about whether it can and should be used to assess Palin's ability to govern.
You feel Obama is wrong that people should not attack another politician's children.
You feel Obama is wrong about the need for unity and the problem with partisan politics.
.... ok.

If it is simply an attempt at spin, then why is Obama the one doing the "spin"?
Why is it your chosen style of partisan attacks that he condemns?
Democrats should be proud that they have a moral disconnect with their nominee?
Would it be a mistake to vote for Obama if he doesn't see things as clearly as you?

Have you written to Obama to convince him to stop his "spin" and to do the right thing and begin a vicious attack on Palin's daughter? To put a girl in a difficult situation in the public spotlight?
If you are right, can you explain why Obama isn't smart enough to "get it" while you do?

McCain chose her because he knows (and even Obama admits) it "has no relevance to Governor Palin's performance as a governor, or her potential performance as a vice-president." In fact, how she handles the attacks and defends her daughter show a positive side of her character.

McCain and Obama both understand that this is not a fertile or fair line of attack. You are one of the people who don't understand this. If anything, it can hurt Obama's chances by continuing to do so. Obama is trying to get you to stop and you can't see it.

The "distraction" and "spin" is being created as a deliberate effort by some in the Democratic party to attack Palin through her daughter. This underhanded tactic is more likely to backfire and Obama knows it. The only dysfunction is that Obama is trying to get some people to stop but can't. Yet you persist.

Obama is merely taking the "high ground " for political reasons on this,he is showing very good judgement staying out of it .He or even democrates don't need to be the one's to push this issue, the media will take care of that. There is no way I beleive this line that McCain knew this before selecting her.It is now reported the McCain campaign has another team of people on their way to Alaska to try to find what else hasn't been revealed about her. Also it is said McCain wanted to select Joe Lieberman as his running mate but that was opposed by members of his staff who were able to talk him out of it as that was going to anger the pub base, and that Palin was a last minute pick.
Republicans who have claimed they are the party of morals and family values have invited such scrutiny. And again yes Palin pushing abstinence only teaching as public policy but now having a pregnant daughter that shows clearly how idiotic a policy that is is what makes this a legitimate issue. But again it won't be dems who pursue it but the media as they see it as fair game and it is.If she had rational stances on sex ed,contraception etc. and this still happened it would be very different.
This is going to down in history as the worst VP pick since McGovern picked Eagleton in 1972, who had hidden he had had psychiatric care from McGovern and had to be replaced.McGovern was already in real trouble Vs Nixon but that just about sealed his fate.
Watch, she will be soon stepping aside as running mate, probably before Wed. when she is scheduled to speak at convention. The story she will put out is apologizing for having not been more forthcoming to McCain and his people.McCain will probably go back to Lieberman who will have none of these problems with how long he has been in the national public eye. That will still anger the base but that's better than what Palin staying on the ticket would mean.Keep her and these kinds of issues about her will drown out everything else which would sink McCain. It's time for them to stop the bleeding. In just a couple days of scutiny this has been what has come out, given more time to dig what else would come out about her? She was a rush job last minute pick and was clearly not vetted thoroughly.

Oh and BTW while I may be much more supportive of dems and now Obama although he was not my 1st choice I feel no obligation to somehow take marching orders from eithier. It is laughable to say somehow this is going to reflect poorly on anyone but the republicans and Palin and McCain(his staff in particular). They were lucky yesterday (or maybe smart to release it then and hope it was not the big news of the day) that the coverage of the hurricaine was the focus of the news. But that is not going to be the case going forward,Palin will be the hot topic and it will overwhelmingly on this issue. And the media does not take orders from Obama eithier. She won't last the week.

HOLY SHIT YOU WORK?! What's your job?! Where you live at, Canada? UFOario? British Conspiracia? Lovejoyewan? FREEONESITOBA?!

I have been working 7 days a week for the last 30 years. I have never taken a day off during Christmas, New Year and even any holidays. Some weekends, I worked non-stop for 72 hours (from Friday till Monday morning and then sleep for few hours) and average 156 hours a week from 1992-2000 ! I would sleep at Detroit Airport, Twin City, Minn Airport etc. in between and returned to Nashville, or Memphis TN.
I have even flew up to Northern Minnesota for 22 hours shift when there was a crisis up north and returned home the next day. Life is never easy. The first time I have been to Alaska was in the summer of 1975 and truly amazed the wilderness of Alaska !

I knew it was a major mistake in my life resulted in two divorces and few car accidents, but I have slowed down and found my new love and will take next Saturday night off to go to a concert with my gf ! (I would put in 14 hours next Sat and sleep 4 hours and go to concert at 8 to 9 at night)

This is a non-story IMO. Who cares? What does this have to do with any of the real issues that confront this nation or the world? Let's see....we've got the war in Iraq, worldwide terrorism, the Russian incursion into Georgia, record high oil prices, a failing U.S economy, AIDS, global warming, thousands of American jobs being shipped offshore, almost 50 million Americans without health insurance, the burgeoning economies of China and India, thousands of hard-working American families losing their homes in the mortgage mess, people working 3 jobs just to keep up with bills (I could go on).....and what becomes front-page news is that McCain's VP nominee's teenage daughter is knocked up. Give me a break.

Anyone who listened to Obama's speech last week heard him say how we need to keep this campaign focused on the big issues, not the small ones. He also said yesterday that this subject is off-limits as a campaign weapon. Thank you, Senator Obama! It's about time American politics pulled itself out of the gutter....this is a private matter between Mrs. Palin and her family and it should stay that way. If this happened to any of us, it would have no bearing on our qualifications to do our jobs properly. I think we should grant Mrs. Palin the same courtesy.

Somewhere out there Jamie Lynn Spears is breathing a sigh of relief. WTF this has to do with this presidential election and the issues at hand is beyond me.

"Palin Disclosures Raise Questions on Vetting Process"

ST. PAUL — A series of disclosures about Gov. Sarah Palin, Senator John McCain’s choice as running mate, called into question on Monday how thoroughly Mr. McCain had examined her background before putting her on the Republican presidential ticket.

Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice. The campaign was still calling Republican operatives as late as Sunday night asking them to go to Alaska to deal with the unexpected candidacy of Ms. Palin.

Although the McCain campaign said that Mr. McCain had known about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he asked her mother to join him on the ticket and that he did not consider it disqualifying, top aides were vague on Monday about how and when he had learned of the pregnancy, and from whom.

While there was no sign that her formal nomination this week was in jeopardy, the questions swirling around Ms. Palin on the first day of the Republican National Convention, already disrupted by Hurricane Gustav, brought anxiety to Republicans who worried that Democrats would use the selection of Ms. Palin to question Mr. McCain’s judgment and his ability to make crucial decisions.

At the least, Republicans close to the campaign said it was increasingly apparent that Ms. Palin had been selected as Mr. McCain’s running mate with more haste than McCain advisers initially described.

Up until midweek last week, some 48 to 72 hours before Mr. McCain introduced Ms. Palin at a Friday rally in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. McCain was still holding out the hope that he could choose a good friend, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, a Republican close to the campaign said. Mr. McCain had also been interested in another favorite, former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania."

LOL me and the "New York Times" seem to be saying exactly the same thing about what is going on here and how she was a hasty last minute not well vetted pick and brings McCains judgement into question.I only pasted a portion of the story,so for anyone interested click on the link and get more of it.

I think that Sarah is in ! Who cares about Mc"Cane" !
Let's face it, the woman (& family) are an intriguing bunch of joy. Who cares about the politics !

Oh, we're just so captivated and mesmerized !
A week ago she was virtually an unknown . . . today, she's the center of the universe  :nanner: ;)

You go girl !!

There is one thing I dont get about this woman, she's anti abortion but she's pro-death penalty. Thats just hypocracy isnt it? Because im sure under the Christian belief that one life isnt more important than the other, so how can those people make that judgment. Because how can the life of a person who has lived some of a life already, who you can interact with be less worthy of saving than an embryo that has barely any brain function at all.

This isnt a direct attack on her but on all those who have the same views. Hypocrites!!!

Well said and this is one of my central arguments against the death penalty. If you believe in the sanctity of human life, how can one life be more important than another? Plus, if these so-called "Evangelicals" who pretend to be so much more righteous than the rest of us cared about the child after it was born as much as they care about it before it is born, then I'd say they are doing some good. Indeed, these are the same ultra-right wingers who would deny medical coverage for this child so their respect for life ends at birth. How ironic and yes, totally hypocritical.

Now, before you call me a hypocrite (I am pro-choice), there is a huge difference between being pro-choice and being pro-abortion. I do not have the right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her own body and until the government starts issuing birth certificates and Social Security numbers at conception, I cannot buy the argument that the fetus is a human being. I would hope that every woman with an unwanted pregnancy would choose (damn, there's that hated word again) to have the baby and put it up for adoption. If not, it's none of my business.
