Breaking News: Bristol, the oldest daughter of Sarah Palin is pregnant

Friday on my mind

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
So many people are calling her an "evangelical". HOWEVER DID YOU KNOW that she made it VERY CLEAR that SHE believes in creationism, but does NOT think that should be taught in schools? Didn't think so.
Not true at all.She has as Gov. of Alaska been for having "intelligent design" (what they call "creationism" these days) taught in the schools as an alternate theory to evolution.

:rofl: His messy constituency apparently hasn't taken "the high road" or have offered good judgment. The blue blogs are just rabid as of late.
The Alaska dems' "opposition research team" has actually gone as far as to research (if that wasn't enough) and release Sarah's SS#, or at least a good portion of it to "the politico". It's this over the top type of crap that will certainly cost the dems, IMO. There's no excuse for this type of "tactical intervention".

Aside - Do you get paid for your apparent first love of political analysis ?
or is it a hobby in your retirement ? just askin' :dunno:
You're really into this shit like no other !

There are days when I just can't stand it !
I'm good for pol. discussions about 2 - 3
days a week. :tongue:

Just as McCain can't control everyone who might be in opposition to Obama,Obama can't control what blogs do or say or the media for that matter.At least what the left is saying about Palin has some truth to it,unlike what the things that are said about Obama on right wing blogs like he is a muslim etc.It's not just left wing blogs that think Palin's selection is newsworthy for many reasons but every mainstream media outlet there is does as well.But I know they are all part of the liberal conspiracy.
Her daughters pregnancy is only a fair issue IMO because of her positions publically on sex ed,contraception and abortion.There are some things that have been said about her like she has no buisness with such a large family being involved in politics or working at all that are just seixst nonsense and not fair at all.And her husbands 20 year old DUI arrest is also not an issue and actually has not been made one by anyone.
Since she is really so unknown it is the medias job to try to get the story out good and bad of who she is.After all if she is going to be running for VP,people should know siomething about her,shouldn't they?
We can't just rely on the scripted depiction of her coming from the pubs.We are already learning that some of the positives they presented about her have told the whole story.Like the claim she is a reformer against earmarks and pork.Now it is reported she was for "the bridge to nowhere" before she was against it (familiar sounding line) and that when she was a mayor hired a lobbyist to lobby to get stuff(earmarks) for her city.
So the truth is we have a lot to learn about who she really is.
But I think the real story here is McCain and his judgement and selection process that led to her being chosen.I love the way everyone arguing for her selection just ignore my post from the NY Times(which is no different than any other media story on it) that say she was a last minute pick(don't pick a pro-choice person like Lieberman or Ridge John! replacement) and that they knew very little about her except she was a woman and was a conservative.The McCain people are still in Alaska looking to see what else they are not aware of about her that might come out that would be an issue.If this is the way he handles the single most important decision a presidential nominee makes before the election,what does that say about his judgement and how he might make rash decisions as president.He actually is looking more and more like GWB in that way,which I think is sort of surprising.

Now to your analysis of my interest in politics and this is not the first time you have mentioned this I would ask ,do you have any mirrors.In other words WTF is your excuse??:1orglaugh
At least I don't go round with whack conspiracy theory's like McCain was not the pubs pick but the result of a media/George Soros effort.I find your posts as you find mine apparently eithier difficult to read as well or many times to be just flat out funny they are so far out in left field,or should I say right field?:D

If you watched the convention last night which I thought overall looked pretty weak,the theme was McCain is a maverick more than a republican and they are actually trying to present themselves as the party of "change" in this election.After 8 years of GWB with them in control of congress for most of that time as well that is one helluva of a claim by them.But what else can they do ,they can't win being tied to GWB and the last 8 years.That's why they selected McCain he has the best chance of being seen as different than GWB than the others who ran.I even thought McCain was not the same as most pubs and more pallatable,but with this selection of Palin a hard right choice I have lost that notion.I could maybe see McCain as president but her,no thank you.

NOW WAIT A MINUTE! Liberals are by and large Pro choice/Pro abortion but against the DEATH PENALTY!

So now what was that????

Actually read the post this time for further clarification. I am not pro-abortion. Those are your words....not mine.

You believe that Obama means what he says and isn't "merely taking the "high ground " for political reasons" like a sleazeball. I don't know. I originally agreed with you but with so many people convincing me we should ignore everything and attack Palin's daughter, I have been convinced otherwise. ;)

You want to discuss the real issues? What's wrong with you? This is our chance to drag someone through the mud to help our candidate win! We can take advantage of the situation and make him seem clean while we fight real dirty. Let take advantage of this fine moment of sleazy goodness. We can show that we can stoop even lower than those who attack our candidate. People will take us just as seriously.

Whuddya think?

I think your tongue must be firmly implanted in your cheek....at least I hope so.

I just don't see REALISTICALLY voting for obama biden simply because I do not believe as they believe and I really don't think that their "plan" will lead to better times for this country. It has been tried before, as shown by history, and it NEVER works..

I guess you would have preferred Hoover's "rugged individualism" approach to the great depression as opposed to what FDR did then? I'm sure that doing nothing would have worked much better.....pretty much the tactic the lame-duck Bush administration is doing now.

The best statement you ever made on this board is above, however, when you state that you choose (damn....there's that awful word again) not to vote for Obama/Biden simply because you don't believe as they believe. I can thoroughly respect that. Same reason I cannot vote for McCain/Palin. I am fundamentally in opposition to what they stand for. Isn't it great that we live in a country where we can have such divergent views without fear of retribution?

After 8 years of republican reign, it's dem time. Simple as that.
Simply put..you are correct Torre. The Dems are cruising to big, big wins this November. Is it even necessary anymore for Obama or Biden to throw McCain/Palin a bone with the debates? I really wonder if the debates are needed anymore.

But why not have fun with all the "gifts" that keep "giving" from McCain/Palin? Why should the Dems "silence their guns"? They've had 2 terms of the worst president in the history of the nation and are left with exploding deficits, a never-ending, useless war costing trillions, and the worst national economy since the Great Depression (this present economy makes Bush's 2004--"Jobless recovery" economy look like the roaring 20s). Someone has to pay for this misery!

I would absolutely "go after" Sarah Palin and the idiot Republicans who thought she'd somehow "galvanize the spirit of women"...she may galvenize the spirit of the middle-aged WalMart shopper. That's about it. This scandal should not be off-limits. The Pubs didn't think spreading lies about "Obama's muslim background" or "Michelle Obama's hatred for America" were off limits. Turnabout is fair play. I say get nasty Dems. Go for it:hatsoff:

But look who else the Pubs could've had instead: Meg Whitman (ceo of eBay), Carly Fiorina (ex ceo of HP and a megaMILF!), Kay Bailey Hutchison, Christine Todd Whitman former Gov of New Jersey...

Being from NJ ,Whitman I can tell you is done.As head of EPA the lies she said about ground zero being safe are not forgotten.But the other ones I agree would have been better choices.And I applaud your seeing this is fair game.Dems in the past have been swift boated and just taken the nonsense with hardly any response.I'm not for lying about people like the swift boat stuff was which basically said Kerry didn't really deserve his medals which was nonsense.Put his life on the line every bit as much as McCain did who is now being hailed as the great hero which he was in nam of course.No need to make up stuff about Palin and how bad a pick she is.And as you said and were ridiculed for we are just learning about her and every day new stuff will be coming is probably true,and whats even more amazing is McCain's own people are still investigating her.
Palin is so extreme she would not even allow a woman who was raped by her own father to have an abortion if she had her way.Hardly any woman who supported Hillary which is what the pubs hope Palin can attract will support someone that extreme once they know more about her.

National defense, taxes, energy, economy,the future.
At least almost all the former democratic and republican hopefuls in the primarys addressed these issue with some sort of idea, conviction, plan.
MR Obama uses catch phrases and usually dances around most questions.
I made those comments in response to tits post.

National defense? You mean the war in Iraq? (which unfortunately carries bipartisan blame since democrats also bought into Bush's bullshit intel). Also, last time I looked, bin Laden was still on the loose. If you are referring to a huge military budget, I can't argue with that.

Taxes? A huge tax break for the rich resulting in the largest budget deficit in history.

Energy? Other than drill, drill, drill and, recently, McCain's love affair with nuclear and other fossil-fuels like LNG and coal, I can't think of any alternative energy initiative that the republicans have offered up. And why should they? They are inextricably tied to the oil companies.

Economy? We're in a recession here in the USA in case you haven't heard.

The future? Not sure what you are referring to....all the candidates are referring to the future. At least Obama offers change and hope. McCain offers 4 more years of the Bush administration. To quote Hillary Clinton...."Thanks, but no thanks".

I noticed you conveniently left "health care" off the list.

By the way, if you haven't read Obama's "Blueprint for the Future" I suggest you do before you accuse him of being all fluff and no substance. Download the pdf file here:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

You might not agree with his plan but don't falsely accuse him of not having one. I would ask all undecided voters to ask themselves the same question that icon of republican ideals, Ronald Reagan, asked in 1980 when he ran against Jimmy Carter...."Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?". I sure ain't....

Economy? We're in a recession here in the USA in case you haven't heard

Eh, that's all driven by opinion. No one has straight up said, "the United States of America is in a recession right now". The only "statistics" that you can use to support that argument are taken from surveys...surveys.

Nearly three-quarters of Americans think the economy is in recession, according to a national poll

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/17/poll.national/

Of course a national poll is going to come out saying that we're in a recession. The polls are taken by ignorant, unrealistic All-American complainers. It's just as pointless as asking a 6 year old if they like ice cream.

The media in this country does nothing but implant stupid and unsupported ideas into our heads and most people take everything that Mr. News Anchor says to be a 100% accurate fact. When, in all reality, most of the crap you hear on the news or read in a newspaper is complete hearsay and untrue.

The United States breeds it's citizens to do what they're told, believe everything they hear from celebrities (because that's all news anchors and reporters are...celebrities) and avoid making their own decisions. Just look at Oprah. People who "follow" Oprah are going to vote for Obama, not because they necessarily know Obama's stand on certain issues or believe that he can truly make a difference, but because "Oprah said Obama is good so it must be true."

Until the data make it clear, no one can confirm that a recession is under way. Until then, it would be inaccurate (not to mention irresponsible) to report that the “U.S. economy is in a recession now.”

Definition:
A recession is a contraction phase of the business cycle. In the USA, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) defines it more broadly as "a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales."

Dow Jones 1 year average on the bottom graph:
http://www.djindexes.com/
52 Wk Hi: 15866.70 current: 11494.13
52 Wk Lo: 12176.28
A consistent drop of 3,000 points over the last year is noticeable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New York Stock Exchange:
http://www.nyse.com/about/listed/lcddata.html?ticker=NYA&fq=D&ezd=1Y&index=5
52 wk High 52 wk Low current: 8296.98
10,311.61 8,089.49
A consistent drop of 2,000 points over the last year is obvious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Consumer Spending according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm
Only need to cite one fact on that page to induce an instant AND long-term loss in consumer spending/consumer confidence:
Gasoline prices increased at a 35.2
percent SAAR in 2008 after a 29.6 percent increase in 2007, while natural
gas prices rose at a 71.3 percent SAAR after decreasing 0.4 percent in
2007.

The rest is just peachy too. Cost of living increases all around. Btw, SAAR is Seasonally-Adjusted Annual Rate, in case one were to decry the numbers as misleading because of a failing currency or rising inflation or other variables in the equation. And those numbers are as-of-this-moment. The trends show we're still declining.

Right wingers Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy talk “off air” and attack Palin for VP pick after they defend it on air.

Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state government work. Angler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. And these guys, this is all like how you want to (inaudible) this race. You know, just run it up. And it’s not gonna work.

Noonan: It’s over.

Murphy: Still, McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

CT: Don’t you think the Palin pick was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too (inaudible)

Noonan: I saw Kay this morning.

Murphy: They’re all bummed out. I mean, is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

Todd: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

Noonan: The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives and (inaudible) the picture.

Yeah, but what’s the narrative?

Noonan: Every time the Republicans do that because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at and they blow it.

Murphy: You know what’s really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical.

And as you call it gimmicky.

Good find:thumbsup:
It's truly a shocking pick, even to many republicans apparently lol.
McCain should dump her and take Lieberman like he wanted to in the 1st place.With that speech Lieberman gave last night his days as being welcomed as even an independant democrate are numbered anyway so he would probably be real happy to now become a full fledged republican.

Are you expecting the President to come out and proclaim "WE'RE IN A RECESSION!" :rolleyes:

Nobody can actually come to a single consensus as to what defines a recession. But by whatever indicator you want--unemployment is rising, incomes are down, wages are stagnant, profits are down (have you been paying attention to Big Auto/Big Airline/Retail numbers?) except for Big Oil and Halliburton....the list goes on Chef.

How many more FOR SALE signs and empty business spaces do you need to see?:dunno:

Tune into CNBC. They put on Liberal-leaning economists and financial planners all the time who speak in recessionary terms. The Conservative economists, of course, merely say "things are slow..."

You work in the restaurant biz...do you notice empty tables, lower checks or do you see no change?

LBP 76

Hey babe, wanna get lucky?
a recession is two consecutive quarters of economic contraction as measured by the GDP.

that has not happened so America is not in a technical recession.

But the Dow is down 20+% since last November, the real estate market has had it's worst contraction in decades, banks have lost billions, credit has dried up, inflation is not good and consumer confidence is low. On top of that the government is running a record deficit.

The economy sucks.

He,he, oh boy those far rightwingers are sure going to pissed off...November surprise McCain picks Ronmey as Palin drops...and the elections are won by Barrack..this race is starting to look like something out of the WWE and the McMahons.

Maybe the leprechan will turn out to be the real biological father of the Palin baby. These people scare the crap out of me - and the media scares the crap out of me. After all the Jeremiah Wright stuff that got trumpeted all over for weeks, I saw one little blog that Sarah Palin's pastor was going on 2 weeks ago about how anti-Israeli violence is god's judgement against people that don't believe in Jesus Christ - and that's it - one little blog vs how many hours of coverage of Jeremiah Wright?

This woman is incredibly right-wing, however Milf-y people think she is. I love how they want to deny that she was a big supporter of Pat Buchanan, as though Pat Buchanan was dead and doesn't have good records of who his supporters were.

People have to eat, so no change is seen where I work.

I just think that this "recession" that people would like to think we're in is all due to mass amounts of complaining and "following the leader". Yes, things aren't perfect when it comes to our economy, but that just means we have to work a little harder than we normally would.

I can find a million things to complain about but bitching about it won't do a damned thing except make it seem even worse than it is.

Not making enough money? Don't complain about it; work more hours, get a second job, find other ways of making some extra cash. It's not something we necessarily want to do, but it's not as hard as it seems.

Personally, IMHO, I think this country we live in loooooooooves to bitch and moan about how bad things are, when, in all reality, we have it pretty damn good.

Since you mention Rev Wright he is entertaining at least, he recently said about Obama.
