Buchenwald trip has personal meaning for Obama aide

This is interesting, on many levels...least of all, that Obama has some personal insight now on the historical connection between 30s-40s Socialist Germany, and the extremes the government went to 'cause it could, and today's world where we all know how things are going at home in the USA.
We sometimes forget who our grandparents, and their families, were; and how tough they had to be to survive their world.

I like the part where the Prez shared the moment with the aide, really a human moment.

"These individuals never could have known the world would one day speak of this place," Obama said. "They could not have known that some of them would live to have children and grandchildren who would grow up hearing their stories and would return here so many years later to find a museum and memorials and the clock tower set permanently to 3:15, the moment of liberation.

"They could not have known how the nation of Israel would rise out of the destruction of the Holocaust and the strong, enduring bonds between that great nation and my own.

"And they could not have known that one day an American president would visit this place and speak of them and that he would do so standing side by side with the German chancellor in a Germany that is now a vibrant democracy and a valued American ally.

"They could not have known these things," he said. "But still, surrounded by death, they willed themselves to hold fast to life."
Wow.:hatsoff:

BTW, the lessons of 30s and 40s should be to not to allow the seeds of hatred, violence and the vilification of an entire group of people to ever become mainstream. And those who are the purveyors of it ought to be marginalized.

Speaking of irrelevant. Where in this story do you glean inference that Obama is now newly enlightened about "Socialist Germany" as it related to "how things are going at home in the USA"??

The extremes at the core Germany's transgressions were about fascism and totalitarianism not socialism.

Maybe you linked the wrong story but this one seems about an aide's personal connection to the Buchenwald site, tragedy and triumph.

Work it out...you're like the guy who keeps asking for the punchline to be explained after a joke...you've had enough explanations, figure out the simple connection. It's easy...

At first, I wanted to let this thread be and don't comment on it at all. But Philbert, I've got to hand it to you, you easily provoke a reaction from me.

Nice story. And I'm not surprised at all that you like it. First of all, you once again take the opportunity (this time in form of the touching story of Obamas aides ancestors) to make a hint at Obama's allegedly socialist policy. Doesn't matter that you distort historical facts (Germany wasn't socialistic in the 1930s and 40s) to make your wild accusations. And secondly (and that you seem to have in common with Obama): what is worthy of your attention when talking about Germany? Oh yeah, right, a concentration camp. Nice. Glad to see that our supposedly greatest ally still can't link us in his mind with anything else but Nazis crimes.

And as a reaction to your posting you get this:
Wow.

A nice and good-willed affirmation of the worthiness of your posting and a nice, very truthful comment by Hot Mega, someone who usually doesn't agree with you.

And just because you don't like him, you're immediate answer is:
Like Islamic Jihad?

You are just a sad hater, who always gets hold of the wrong end of the stick.
Following that, you do, what you do best: try to ridicule or belittle others. You know exactly, that Hot Mega wasn't talking about "Islamic Jihad". But the fact, that you made that connection immediately, show's me, that you are nothing but a racist. Because it seems that for you every Muslim is potentially a propagator of Islamic Jihad. Why else would you jump like this at the comment, that we shouldn't "allow the seeds of hatred, violence and the vilification of an entire group of people to ever become mainstream"? Because deep down inside, you'd like that and you'd probably be one of the frontrunners of a regime that vilifies, marginalizes and hates.

There's nothing to figure out. And there's no simple connection, because there is no connection at all. You once again made a posting, that you attached some cryptic message and pseudo-value to, while in fact, noone knows what you were talking about. And then you just take the opportunity and jump at the first person you don't like and start your usual crap.
The fact, that you somehow connect nationalsocialistic Germany and the US under Obamas adiminstration, doesn't give me very much confidence when I think about Americas political future, to be honest. You twisted, once again, the world so that it fits your view.
