Marriage was instituted by God, not man. Man is the one that has changed and perverted God's marriage laws. NO man can change God's laws, not one, the marriage laws have already been set and cannot change. The governments of the world can pass laws saying it's ok to divorce or get remarried, but those are just gross violations of God;s marriage laws. Human wisdom and morality is seriously flawed.

Only if you want to define it that way. As Nomad said, it's defined how we want it to be. The question is, why would you want to define it as between a man and a woman, exclusively, hmm? What good reason is there for that?

I'll take Human morality over God's any day. God says we should stone our children if they lie, yet issues the commandment "You shall not murder" (didn't he have some poor fellow kill his own son in the Bible?). I guess omnipotence doesn't include making up one's mind.

Actually I tried to keep religion out of this thread out of respect to all of the Atheists here but since you went there here's my :2 cents:

Last I checked God is supposed to be the ultimate judge not humans, so if this is so wrong then God will handle it come final judgement. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Yet we as a people seem to be casting stones at everybody who doesn't conform to what we deem as normal. If you don't like it, tough. Who are you to judge? Jesus preached about love and respect for all people but some people and religions for that matter can't seem to grasp this concept. You want to talk about divorce, IMHO divorce is needed when the person you are with is a constant abuser. No one should have to stay in a marriage when they could end up dead one day. Divorce laws need to changed so everyone can't just get a divorce when they want, only in extreme circumstances. This is the reason marriage is seen as a joke in this country, people treat it like one. I've always believed in marriage and believe it's a lifetime commitment not to taken lightly. If heterosexuals are going to treat as you say God's law this way then why not let the homosexuals get married. They might be the ones who treat marriage with the respect that it's supposed to have. I think the concept of marriage should have never been something recognized by the government in the first place. It should always have been left as a religious issue that everybody could decide what it meant for themselves. The government should have always just recognized civil unions of any type of couple.

Yeah another solution to it all would be to just remove any benefits for marriage at all and govt to stay out of it entirely.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I don't see how a gay couple getting married effects me so why would I be against it.
