Can any one tell me what the current market is like in the construction in Scotland

Keep posting!
I am contemplating moving over to either Scotland or Cork to carry on with my career Construction Management and would like to gather as much information regarding the upsides and downsides of relocating and working in Scotland.I will be meeting an agent as an initial introduction but I would need further info and experiences from other people who have followed a similar path. From my research so far, there seems to be a great deal of regeneration from EU funding and a possible shortage of labor. Also, the rates/salaries offered seem to be far higher than the UK - (on a par with London ).Why are the rates so high? Is the cost of living very high or is there another reason why attractive rates are offered.
My plan is to live in Ireland on long term contracts while my wife and family stay in UK.

Stay away from both of them because the construction industry is
practically dead in Scotland and especially in Ireland where there are
tons of debt.

My advice to you would be to try Abu Dhabi,Dubai or even in Australisia.
But as for the UK,my best bet would be England because that's where
the moneys at ;)

Ireland is terrible at the moment with 1000s of homes lying empty so construction will probably be non existant, there is still work in London but expect to receive half the money a builder should (for smaller jobs anyway). There is still a lot of work going on at the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. It may be best you visit these places and get a feel yourself or go to some contruction websites/forums. As tt said the middle east can prove quite lucrative (although some countries are stuggling) or maybe even places like Brazil or China that are booming.
