Can pets sense human illness / near death conditions ?

This is not news necessarily, it's just an interesting ongoing study.
Do any of you know of any situations where a not overly afectionate animal had suddenly clinged to an ill or perhaps dying person ?

Can pets sense illness?


A cat has apparently "predicted" the deaths of 25 residents in a nursing home in the US. It seems fanciful but can pets detect illness or even death?

The residents of Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Rhode Island would be forgiven for getting a little anxious if Oscar was to curl up next to them.

It is thought that Dogs can detect cancer. Either through scent or through other means.

animals have awesome sense of smells that's why people with epilepsy use them. Your body gives off an odor before.

If they can, it's a matter of smelly hormones or something. There's not some occult, spiritual explanation behind it - because such things are just superstition.

i believe it 100%. animals can sense some crazy stuff. a few seconds before an earthquake, they go nuts. ive heard of this sensing cancer and death stuff too.

There was an episode of House that touched on this subject. They actually offered a pretty interesting explanation as to why certain animals can "predict" when a person is going to die. I'm not going to tell you what it is though...you have to watch the episode.

My parents had a dog that got really protective of my Mom when she got sick. A few weeks before Mom died that dog would make sure that I would go to her room when I would visit. I came over one day and the dog almost chased me down the hall to her room. On some of Mom's better days the dog was fine. All of us kids could tell how she was that day by how the dog acted.

Some dogs can also 'detect' cancer and diabetes in the urine.

I have been a little ill for the last 5 or 6 months... One of my cats started following me around the house like a dog... I was starting to think that she was waiting for me to drop so she could attack!!!... Im on the mend now and she has started to become distant again... Its as if her job is done and she thinks I dont need her anymore.
