Why are you putting words I didn't say in my mouth and do you realize how fucking irritating it is? If this is how you're going to respond, don't respond at all.

And saying that criminals wouldn't have guns if there were more laws is also false. Everything from drugs to exotic pets to human beings get smuggled into the US every day.

Please explain how this isn't a reduction to the "since laws don't stop 100% of something, there's no point in having them" argument.

Don't get me wrong, this is beside whether or not the laws we have already are working/being enforced/etc. I'm not arguing (here) for more. It's just that this particular beat is a tired and worn-one, as you say, but it's also disingenuous. It's an argument against the 'world without guns' stance, which doesn't really exist (even in England, for example, you actually can have a gun - under certain stipulations, like membership in a gun club). It says nothing to the more valid 'a lot less guns'. This goes to your point about Chicago as well; nobody is saying that Chicago wouldn't have any guns were it not for the surrounding areas. They're saying there would be a lot less...as Iceman is saying.

Actually you're not wrong about that. As I've mentioned a few times I actually live in Chicago and the gun violence is centered in two specific areas of the city: the west and south side of Chicago. These areas are predominately black and hispanic, but more black, and rife with gang violence
