CHICAGO – A hulking Chicago police officer who claimed he pummeled a female bartender half his size because he thought he was in danger was found guilty Tuesday of aggravated battery.

Judge John Fleming rejected Anthony Abbate's claim that he acted in self defense when he threw, punched and kicked Karolina Obrycka as she tended bar in February 2007 in an attack caught on a tavern security tape. The altercation happened after she refused to serve him more drinks.

Abbate, 40, faces probation to up to five years in prison when he is sentenced June 23. He remained free Tuesday after Fleming denied a request to revoke bond.

Christ, the wheels of justice moved extra slowly on this one. I saw that video almost two years ago. That asshole must really have wanted to keep his job because he really came up with a top notch defense. " I was afraid of a woman half my size." I wish the prosecutors could have used the "Look at him," strategy because he does, in fact, look like a giant douche.

His weight was exactly - or nearly - TWICE that of the woman bartender who was, after all, just doing her job, and doing it properly.

He should have to give a serious apology to the woman, pay all her related medical bills plus maybe $5K on top of that, plus at least 10 months in the slammer. And he should never be able to be a cop in ANY state again.

Oh, btw, I would totally bang that bartender. She is really cute! What a complete douchebag this guy is--he could've made a hot bartender friend who probably would've thrown him a free drink or two from time to time...then again, he's probably a total raging alcoholic with a "power complex" that only comes out after having a few pops...

Yeah, but quite possibly some of those guys who are in jail because of him were actually guilty.

I think jail and prison should be punishment, but it shouldn't be punishment by virtue of being some lawless hell where further crimes take place.
