This is truth. MAD should only include nukes. Thousands upon thousands of soldiers, a fuckload of jets, hueys and the rest? We could destroy the world so many times over.. eh, it never seems to end. Just when is the country 'safe enough'? Funny, then.. that they could put up hundreds of tidebreakers for our weather-ravaged southern coastal states. Throw up some more wind power for chicago, some solar stations in Texas and New Mexico. Kill off thousands of lifers in prisons and convert the funds to higher education and pushing education instead of endless testing. SAT's.. ACT's.. a test doesnt teach, a teacher does. Dont stress the student, teach them! Any of you guys out there with kids in middle/high school.. tell me just how much shit is being piled on top of those kids. Half of them are stuck on red bull to stay awake. LOL

$1.2 trillion! The US must feel REALLY threatened! I wonder if it would be enough to double the money?
"$2.4 trillion, and we´re finally safe!"

If I had a my Freeones account, I would have just gotten 25 points!
It's a distorted comparison. A great proportion of the US budget is to cover wages which are relatively generous. You can't compare Chinese spending on the same basis.China could provide a lot more hardware and personnel for the outlay than the US.
Like the Uk much of the budget is misdirected. We aren't giving our front line troops adequate equipment or protection , their living quarters are a national disgrace yet we spend billions on military hardware for which there seems no use.

Would you hit it?
That chart is completely useless...

1) Most of the countries on that list aren't even close to comparable to the U.S. in population or land area.

2) All of the countries that are close to comparable (Russia, China, and maybe India) use forced conscription, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than voluntary enlistment... but a luxury that I personally find fully worthwhile.

3) The U.S. paid for the R&D on a lot of the weapons those countries use just so that we could have the first chance to use them and then sell them off when they were obsolete. Again, it makes for cheap weapons, but what good is a cheap tank or fighter jet if the person you're fighting can kill you before you have a chance to use it?

Does my bum look big on this forum?
You should keep in mind that such huge spending for military is, in it's larger part, useful for the economy. Soldiers and staff get paid, various government contractors and factories produce weapons and other equipment and also get paid, and new technologies are developed.

Of course you can say that the money spent on military could have been directly invested into various projects of public interest. That may be true, but then what would happen if someone crazy got to power in, say, Russia or China?
