Critics: 'Airbender' & 'Prince' were 'whitewashed'

Don't know what the hell 'Airbender' is but I did play the old school 'Prince of Persia' game as well as the Sands of Time Trilogy released on the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. As a general rule of thumb, I usually avoid video game movies as they are usually on the high end of the totem pole when it comes to suckage. However, I have seen the trailer for 'Prince of Persia' and it looks fairly decent. As a fan of the game, I thought Jake Gyllenhaal was a good choice for the role, but I can see why some people have their panties in a twist:

Can't wait to see Airbender.
Its supposed to be called Avatar but James Cameron stole the title so they had to call it The Last Airbender.

It is based off an awesome anime btw.

Jake G looks downright ridiculous in PoP. I keep waiting for either a metallic bunny or Heath Ledger to show up in one of the promos.

It wasn't an anime, it was an American cartoon. And the producers can still call it Avatar if they like...nobody can own a title.

Anyway, I get it and I kind of agree. In America, it's still less of a risk to put a white guy in an expected blockbuster (unless it's Will Smith). Hell, they made a samurai movie and made Tom fucking Cruise the star of it. I can understand how that'd rub people the wrong way.

But come on, where the fuck is Hollywood gonna find a Persian who's guaranteed bank? With Avatar...I dunno, in the cartoon he's never named as being Asian, per se. But you sure do assume so seeing how he resembles an Asian Buddist monk.

Wasn't Tom Cruise playing an American in that one?

[captainobviousthesuperhero]You know, Hollywood should really write new movies that are actually interesting, but in summation: FUCKING NEW.

Absolutely. But it was based on the Satsuma Rebellion which featured no White people and no Americans. But you need to throw in the White guy because...well come on, who besides JNerds and hardcore action fans are going to spend their money to see a bunch of Mongoloids with swords?

The same thing applies to troubled Black schools, troubled Black sports teams or even movies about Nelson Mandela or Idi Amin. If you can't find a story that already has a White guy in it, make one up. White people put asses in seats, it seems. :dunno:

Most people who saw The Last King of Scotland still think that Nicholas Garrigan was a real guy. Thank God people had the balls to put Don Cheadle in Hotel Rwanda. I'm surprised they didn't go with Clooney.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
