While North Carolina is reliving some of its dark history, Michigan is not without its own.

Michigan was among the 35 states that allowed sterilization of people considered unfit to reproduce.

The stories of dozens North Carolina victims are coming to national prominence after people came forward to speak at a public hearing seeking compensation.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the North Carolina government has a legislative proposal to compensate sterilized people with $20,000 each.

Victims have said they were lied to about the procedure. About 7,600 people in North Carolina were sterilized over five decades, and about 3,000 of those people are still alive, according to CNN.

Michigan shares in the eugenics horror often associated with Nazis, as more than 3,000 residents were involuntarily sterilized, according to a January 2009 document from the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.

I long for the good old days when this country was Christian and sterilized people for no reason and in secret. What I wouldn't give for forced marriage, social stigma for divorce and children out of wedlock and a good ol'world war.

While I do agree that some people deserve to be sterilized, I'm not saying that everyone that fits the bill of the Nazi protocol deserves it. I am for sterilizing criminals regardless of race or gender, and also for stupid people. Just by sterilizing stupid people, you might just raise the intelligence level of the American gene pool.

What happens if "criminals' ends up being innocent after all. I also find that a decent amount of "smart" people are some of the most unwise and despicable people there are while people some would consider dumb are wiser and decent people. I don't have to mention what a slippery slope this would be even if it wasn't inherently wrong. Things like intelligence and worth are too subjective and are often not even viewed in a way that's sane let alone in a way that's right.

It's better for no person to try to play God with anybody and to give everybody the rights nature intended them to have.

I see where you wanna go with the whole criminal thing. But truth be told we have tons of innocent people on death row right now.

What percent of the present prisoner population outside of death row inmates are innocent? committed petty crimes?

It's hard to dictate who is worth having children and who isn't as not everyone grows up to be carbon copies of their horrid parents. It does happen don't get me wrong; but how can one predict it?

Freedom is messy unless you mandate and indoctrinate things like intelligence or good genes or better standards of living. Since poor people in poor communities experience and cause most the crime we're familiar with; my guess the poor would be the ones who get sterilized. The rich wouldn't unless they threw their lives away completely.

It would just be another "if you have enough money the law doesn't apply to you" loop hole.

You'd also end up quantifying what "intelligence" is. Is it IQ? EQ? street smarts? Good behavior? Socializing?

Because I think people like Hitler or Stalin were actually pretty intelligent...for what they did they couldn't be complete dimwits; well one would assume not.
