Deportation halted

Deportation halted, Demjanjuk returns to Ohio home.

A plane was waiting nearby to fly alleged Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk to Germany to face an arrest warrant and a possible war crimes trial.

But the frail 89-year-old retired autoworker won a late reprieve from an appeals court Tuesday, and with it, another chance to argue that his deportation would amount to torture, given his medical condition.

He's 89 and they still want to prosecute him for alleged WW2 crimes?

Why are Nazis still being hunted?

When will Bush, Cheney and the rest of the traitors and war criminals be prosecuted?

So, let me get this straight. You are ready to sweep under the carpet Nazis and their crimes because you think they are ancient history, but you want to run out and drop the hammer on Bush/Cheney for their war crimes? You have an interesting interpretation of "Justice" WillE....

I say we put Herr Demjanjuk on a plane with a nurse and his pills and let him answer his charges. Just being old and sick today is not an escape pass from (allegedly) taking part in the holocaust.

Reread the article, "prosecute him for alleged WW2 crimes."

If we are going back to WW2 to find criminals that should have been caught by now, why not further back in history?

We could charge the decedents of historical figures and their soldiers and slave owners and so on.
We could have a back to the future trial for all the crimes in history.

The "justice" system has a statute of limitations for criminals who violate women for only a ten year old crime. So, why is catching an old Nazi still allowed?

I would stop the tracking of old Nazis and find the new ones, like Bush and Cheney.
At least their crimes are still fresh.

I'd also lift the statues of limitations and reopen all cold cases.

you underline "alleged". isn't responsibility of the accused always alleged, until guilt (or innocence) has been proven?

This has been going on since 1983. The Supreme Court of Israel said there was not enough evidence about 20 years ago.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I live about 15 minutes away from this guy, and they've been fucking with him way to long. If the Supreme court of Israel, said there wasn't enough evidence 20 years ago, it should have been over and done with then and there. I agree, what happened in WWII was an atrocious act, but there is no fucking way, anyone is going to convince me that, if you are anything lower then a HIGH ranking General, or Field Marshall, you would not have been killed yourself for not carrying out orders...and even they would most likely have been shot for treason if they didn't obey. How come no one says anything about the thousands of German civilians killed in all of the bombing raids we flew over Germany, or the thousands of British civilians killed by Germany. It may seem heartless to say, but it was a war, and although that isn't a great excuse, it is what it is...sad and unfortunate, and unbelievably, no one has learned from it, but to continue hunting the remaining German solders that MIGHT have had a hand in making any of the decisions, is not justice, it's revenge, and while I can respect a good healthy dose of blood thirsty vengeance, Worm is right, there are MANY, MANY other criminals out there, that the worlds courts should be putting on trial.

:wtf:

Exactly what did Bush/Cheney do that is, apparently in your mind, equivalent to what the Nazis did? Seriously, I am not asking to be a dick to you......I'd really like to hear your argument on this one.

As far as "going back in time", dude, your comparison about trying relatives is ridiculous. They want to try this particular man because he may have been directly involved. How the hell can you compare what my great-great-great-great-great grandfather may have done with me?

That does not mean he is innocent. I believe some of the survivor's also have said he was a Nazi. If anyone would know it was them. Frankly if he did the crime, he should do the time. :2 cents:

That is going to happen no matter what. The only way to bust them is if they get caught or if they have enough evidence in court. You can still arrest that man and other criminals. Age in this case should not be a factor. Nazi's didn't care about ages when they killed people. :2 cents:

Well that same sentence would apply to anyone that killed. Jail time does not bring anyone back. He has already been free for a long time. Jail may bring some comfort to the people who are still alive that suffered in camps. I am sure they would love even a little bit of justice. :wave2:

Roll a d6.
Who is the villain here? The American Jews, the German court or John Demjanjuk.

The answer is none of the above.

John Demjanjuk did serve as an accessory to thousands of death in WWII.

But the KGB of Soviet Union "played" the CIA, the State Department and the Justice Dept. and provided false information and mis-identified John Demjanjuk as the "Ivan the Terrible".

It was not until after 1990's, the Russians came forward and provided the real identity of "Ivan the Terrible".

John Demjanjuk was let go by the Isreal Supreme Court because of "double jeopardy". John Demjanjuk was charged once and he was acquitted.

But the Justice Department Eric Holder insisted to deport him because of mistakes made by the US Dept. of Justice.

Let he rested in peace with his family at Seven Hills, Ohio.

GOD will decide his fate not Eric Holder of Justice Department !

Bush should've apoligized for not going into IRAQ sooner then he did. His first task should've been to take out Sadam way before he did.

This has been going on since 1983. The Supreme Court of Israel said there was not enough evidence about 20 years ago.

The stupidest part about this whole story is how everyone (in the judicial system) wants him to be punished for torturing people in Nazi prison camps, but the same people also said that he can't be deported because "moving him would be torture".

If it was my decision, whether or not somebody was extradited to another country to face charges would depend on the quality of evidence they have against that person. Maybe if it's possible I would let a grand jury look at it over here, and make a recommendation. I wouldn't however just hand somebody over just because some other country asked for a person.
