Another myth...Mariah actually has a clue about what she says.
The actual dose estimated for a fatal reaction to cannabis is the amount of Delta 9 THC in a lb of approximately 15% THC. Normally potent reefer is 3-5%.
Oil made from hash or serious hybrid super weed isomerizes the THC, bumping up the non psychoactive canibidol (thanks for the muchies!) into active low rotating isomer THC, bumping existing THC into higher rotating isomers, and breaking down higher end THC into canibinal . (I confess I can confuse the two..."Cannabinol and cannabidiol".)
The result is to increase the % of psychoactive THC by 2-5 times...depending on the maturity of the plant at the beginning.
Oil will kick your ass...
Ingesting a 20-30 gram dose of isomerized oil (isomerization occurs when the oil is made) could indeed make it to the level of overdosewhich can indeed fuck you up to the point of organ shut down or respiratory failure...comatose and vomiting can leave you just as dead as a bullet to the brain..
I have seen people unresponsive and unconscious for hours after eating a 10 or so gram chunk of potent hash.
I am sure someone will ingest $3-$5000 worth of killer oil and be dead someday...so far no one has gone there.
I am sure oil is available out there as nonsmokers can put a small drop under their tongue and be high for hours.
Like all subjects, a study is usually skewed to the side the author wants results for.
If one smoked a joint of Thai Stick (hard to do) they would notice a big difference from a joint of California hybrid.
However...normal potency weed is much heavier and way less potent than the not encountered as often high potency reefer.
In the olden times when regular smokers were stoned unconscious by Thai Stick (or Cambodian Stick, or whatever) the average weight (stick, string, and all) was less than a gram ! And 40-50 bong hits were the norm, one toke and orbit achieved.
There are some strains today which have the same potency...and a lb rendered into oil would be seriously potent.
30 grams is the usual gain from a lb, depending on resin content.
Columbian from the old times had a 3x ratio to sativas per square inch...more resin and Asian (ruderalius) potency.
20-30 grams of that would hurt after a while.
HappyHapydumdum just quoted some article right off the net from some DEA brainiacs who estimated the dose to be smoked...like a lb of ordinary Mex reefer is worth $10,000 on the street kinda math.
I would accept the findings if either would care to ingest a 30 grams of oil batch of tasty Brownies and have someone report back.
