Otherwise - I think that is a fairly uninformed opinion you have. There very well may be "some" who do as you suggest. I don't know any that do. Since, you didn't qualify, you would imply that "all" do this. That is uninformed and incorrect.
They are certainly women of faith and take vows that are based on that faith. They do not dedicate themselves to any book, fiction or otherwise. The ones I know dedicate themselves to the service of others. Calling that a "stupid thing to do" is both negative and small minded. These woman are pretty well educated. I only know of you from what you post, but unless you're taking on an alternate persona, from what I can tell of you, each of the nuns that I know are far more knowledgeable of the book you refer to in both content and factual history. You would not fare well in a debate on the topic with them.
It is kind of funny that what you suffer from is your belief in what you think is true, not actually what is factual and truthful. I would suggest you embrace your hypocrisy and learn.
Being contemptuous is typically a sign of fear and self loathing. As Blue said, I also kind of pity people like that. That is a bit of a waste though. I'd rather hope that people like that open their minds and at a minimum be more accepting.

you all can think what you wish of me. But you don't know me or where my heart is or how I see the world at all. I throw some shit around here because I like to debate. It's in my nature. I have a very compassionate side for people less fortunate that I didn't always have. It took knowing a child who died because her parents couldn't afford her asthma medication. I had already started seeing things differently and feeling like people who were in need were getting a shitty deal. I went from being a republican to a democrat on many issues which I have let be known.
I don't hate anyone. I dislike many people because they are unlikable. I value opinions even when they differ from my own. I think a lot of opinions are based on intelligent people's refusal to see another point of view out of some stupid loyalty and stubbornness to their political affiliations, and that irritates the fuck out of me. The thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to reason, and so many people refuse to use that ability.
I read a John Grisham book a few years ago that was about an attorney who was being courted by Big Pharm to run for a supreme court seat for his state so they could fight tort reform. He was a right wing guy with a family and was very much against personal injury suits. The company spent tens of millions on his campaign and got him the seat. To cut to the chase as he is now a sitting state supreme court judge, his son is playing baseball and is hit with a ball that injures him or kills him, I can't remember. Turns out the maker of the aluminum bat being used was being blamed for the speed of the ball after it was hit and the judge found out that they had known it was faulty and dangerous so now he is faced with going against everything he believed and was being paid to believe, or making the manufacturer of the bat pay for knowingly selling a bat that could hurt a kid just as it had done to his son. So the moral of the story is that old question "what if it was YOUR kid?" and he ended up voting against punishing the maker of the bat out of his fucking stupid loyalty to his party and the corporation who had given him his post. It made me sick to think that there are millions of people out there with this very mindset, and I know some of them!
To read BC say he would vote for Obama for any reason is surprising to me but all the while what we need more of. I disagree that Romney would have been a good president. I think he would have been great for the wealthy and for businesses but they are already thriving more than at any time in history, and we have seen how government catering to business so completely (GWB) has worked out for the majority of Americans.
I am sorry if my harshness has offended anyone other than a few that I absolutely intended to offend. You know who you are and you will continue to be offended I assure you because you are, well,..you. But I stand behind what I say. I am an atheist who believes in neither god nor satan or any supernatural being. I have a very spiritual side that has zero to do with prayer or thinking I am being guided by jesus or anyone else. before bed every night I take 5 minutes and think about the people in my life that I love. I don't wish for their success or anything other than spending a few minutes thinking about them. Their smile, the last time we spoke or saw one another, whatever. I have done this for the last 4 or 5 years and it is every night. I dont need to believe in a god to love people or feel close to anyone.
So this is me saying I'm sorry. I want the best for everyone unless you are an asshole. then I just hope you go away and find someone who brings you out of your misery and helps you find a better person within yourself.
