1976 American League Rookie of the Year found dead at his home, reportedly from an accident occuring while working on a heavy truck.

Colorful pitching sensation for the Tigers (1976 - 1980) and two-time AL All Star selection (1976 and 1977), known for, among other things, talking to himself while on the pitching mound and also to the baseball before serving it up for the batter.

^^ Damn dude, every single thread I have looked at this morning has you being completely rude to someone. Start drinking more.............or less, whatever gets you to relax.

Mark the bird was one of the American league guys that I followed. He was rather odd but made it interesting.

For those in the audience that are younger, back in the day you either followed the National League or the American League. There was no ESPN or inter league play. I followed the Reds and could name about every National League roster, but could count on one hand the American League guys I had ever even heard of.

That guy is a fucking dick. He's been banned like 5 times since I've been on the board.

RIP Bird.

When the Tigers closed Tiger Stadium and brought back a bunch of old timers "Bird" got one of the biggest cheers of the night. He also scooped up a baggie full of dirt off the hill.

I'm sure he did. He was one of a kind. First time I saw him was the '76 All Star game. I was saying, who in the hell is this guy?

RIP brother. :glugglug:

Wow, I can remember my dad joking around when I was a kid and talking to his glove just like The Bird. Amazing pitcher when he was healthy, and truly sad news.
