All throughout history, there have been bad guys and then there have been BAD guys. Who in your opinion is the worst of the worst who ever lived? Couldn't list all possibilities in the poll so please explain an "other" vote.

pleased to be the first of many to reply with Adolf Hitler.

He was pure evil, and most evil people will just cruise along life being a generally mean-bastard... Just so happens Hitler was a very smart man, so he left behind him a mass of dead.

Its wierd to think that in maybe 200 years time, no one will remember good men, but the name Hitler will be around for thousands of years.

OK I will go for seconds since you snagged Hitler.

Atilla the Hun

Seasoned from a young age he grew to be one of the most cold hearted killers of all time. Like Hitler taking out the innocent for the power rush. even killing his brother and many of his "aquantinces" a total sociopath.

Yes....poll. Is that a problem?

My personal choice is Stalin. Anyone who reads the history of this brutal despotic lunatic would have to give him serious consideration. His systematic and deliberate starvation of 10 million Kulaks in the Ukraine during his period of collectivization of agriculture makes him the most prolific mass-murderer of all time IMO.

My choice is Pol Pot - I think no other human beast established a regime which slaughtered 1/3 (maybe more) of inhabitants of the country in less than 4 years.

Never argue with a fool. People might not know the difference.
Stalin was definitely one of the most brutal dictators in history. No doubt. He killed anyone and everyone who stood in his way, but pretty much kept it within his own borders for the most part. Not that it makes it right him killing those 20 million, but Hitler...man, that guy brought misery to everyone. He wouldn't have stopped with the Jews either.

My choice though goes to Chairman Mao Ze-Dong of China. Close to 50 million people were killed or died of starvation under his rule. Maybe he wasn't as brutal as some of the others, but on sheer numbers of mass genocide alone, he takes the cake.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
For modern times I would say Hitler. It's hard to tell about ancient times where there were probably worse people. They might not have killed as many people or committed genocide on as big a scale, but that's only because there were significantly less people in the world then, the means of killing were slower and travel more difficult.

If only I could vote for an ideal. Religious fervor and zealots are the driving force behind so many things. That doesnt make the g_d(s) in question evil, no.. but fighting in the name-of; tends to be the justification of many things. Greed. Religion. Its all really just human nature.

I suppose evil could be defined as a selfish act of insanity that doesnt bring its creator happiness. All things 'bad' feel good, as a general rule, yes?

But when they bear no pleasure, thats when I believe things turn decidedly 'evil'.

Case in point, one cannot possibly attain satisfaction when attempting genocide of a hated race and warring with the rest of the world. But often, serial killers on a smaller scale, who kill a dozen to dozens of people.. derive a pleasure, often sexual.. when they kill.

A small distinction, but when there is no apparent reason, or ONLY hatred as your motive.. you are to be considered evil. But dont take my word on it! (in my best Levar Burton Reading Rainbow voice)

Wow, PMS? . Now think, if I posted that what would it tell you? :dunno: Times up. :D

There was no poll showing when I posted that. I am so sorry..... Otherwise I would have never posted that post and when I saw the other member post I then just posted my thoughts , since I still saw no poll.

Since I logged off and returned I do now see it.

"If g_d's on our side, who is on theirs?"

Interesting take. It reminds me of a quote (paraphrased) from my all-time dickhead, Stalin, who said "When one is killed, it is a tragedy. When a million are killed, it is a statistic". Even though creatures like Hitler and Stalin were responsible for millions of deaths, to the best of my knowledge, neither one of them actually personally murdered anyone (except perhaps Geli Raubal?). Does this absolution of personal involvement and conscience somehow make them not as "evil" as, say, Jeffrey Dahmer or Andrei Chikatillo, who not only brutallly murdered their victims but also ate their flesh as well? By your reasoning, I guess not.

I really like how you mentioned Pol Pot. Nobody seems to give a damn about Cambodia, so I was quite surprised and amazed that someone actually mentioned him as being a menace to the world.

I don't want to participate in this thread because I don't feel this is the kind of place I want to be in to contribute my ideals. Really the only reason I came here is to say:

Whoops. I best change my avatar :(
