Diversity Gap in American Politics

I thought this was really interesting

About 50 percent of Americans are female; 13 percent are black, 17 percent are Hispanic or Latino, and 5 percent are Asian.

Yet when you take a look at the leaders of the nation -- the politicians who, representing the electorate, influence public policy and make the decisions that impact every American's life -- you'll find that they are predominantly white and overwhelmingly male.

Only 8 percent of Congress is African American, for example. There are also only two Congresswomen for every 8 male representatives.

A new infographic by Lee & Low Books is showcasing these staggering statistics and more, highlighting the jaw-dropping diversity gap that still exists in American politics:

Hey dumbfuck! there is a reason for that and the answer lies within your own numbers that you posted! What a fucking waste of bandwidth this broad is.

This is a result of those that vote. Whites vote at a higher percentage of their population than others. Women vote at a higher percentage than men. Older people vote more than younger ones. Ergo our elected officials are there because of older white women putting them there. If the rest would get off their asses and voted we might see a difference.

I wasn't complaining for fuck's sake! I honestly found it interesting. I like stats. I analyze my website stats every day, sometimes more than once. I analyze my youtube channel states every day. I even like baseball stats. So when i saw this today I found it interesting. I wasn't surprised. I knew that whites account for a large majority of the government, I just didn't know it was this much.

Not complaining. just sharing information.

You counselor are just like a fucking whiny bitch the way you react to everything. is there something in this post that says I am appalled or disgusted? nope. you need some fucking anger management. geez

We did see a difference of shift in voting the last 2 Presidential elections. More youth and blacks voted. Keep on doing that. Let's get an 80% across the board turnout. Do something about what pisses you off. It ain't (shouldn't be) that hard to register to vote. A gas bill with your name on it should be all that it takes. Photo ID? No. Just something that shows you live in a legislative district. Oh, be a citizen also.

haha florida requires a photo ID as do many states. if 80% of the people voted the republicans would get about 15% of the vote if they were lucky. its in their best interest for that to never happen hence the lobby to keep the requirements to vote at a disadvantage to the poor. unless they are in Mississippi where the welfare receivers and social program "leeches" all vote against their own interests - republican

Question: If you live in a country are you not a de-facto citizen?

This is mainly the case in off year elections and the midterms. Generally for a presidential election you see a much broader base coming out to vote

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.

No. You can immigrate to America, and live here on a visa without taking the citizenship test for, a length of time I can't speak knowledgeably about. as I'm sure many countries allow. Or in other words, there is a difference between a resident, and a citizen.

More proof like we need it that WahwahwahwahHymen is the dumbest poster in the history of the interwebs.

No you are not. At least not in USA. Somewhere near the top of voter registration it asks if you are a citizen of USA. At the end it advises that anyone making false statements on the form is liable for fines, jail, and lots of other shit. France may have other regulations. Stay 2 weeks in a hotel and take your dual citizenship back to Uganda or Shitestan or Finland or some other fucking place.

Kinda like in France, where it is mostly people with a higher education and older people that vote.

I'm sorry but this gets my panties in a bunch. How were we determined eligible to vote before photos? Should we also need an E-Mail or Facebook account now? Don't tell me times have changed and the rules should because of technology. By the time we turn 18 we can provide enough proof that we are citizens at the places we live. Would Obama win by a 30% landslide if 80% were to have voted? I don't know, THEY DIDN'T FUCKING VOTE! Don't complain about Bush IF YOU DIDN'T FUCKING VOTE! Don't complain about your local elected crooks IF YOU DON'T FUCKING VOTE. Get yourself registered and clear out these bums. There was a special election in NJ to replace Frank Lautenberg (D). 30 years in the senate and he had to die at 89 in order to vacate that seat. Yea, I voted for Booker (D) over Steve Lonegan (R). Why? Because Lonegan is a fucking nut. My choice like it or not. Thin the herd entering Washington both left and right.
