Do women really mature faster than males?

I think it's BS. When I was in high school, we would always have to do some sort of game in class. Basically the teacher would divide us into teams of boys and girls and make us answer questions on what we learned for the year. And every year, the boys destroyed the girls. But it's not just that, women tend to be way more naive than males IMO, hence why so many of them get "sprung" so easily.
Now I know the media wants to make people think that girls dont smoke or drink, but in reality, just as much girls smoke and drink as heavily as males do(go to a party if you dont believe me).
I was thinking about this one girl who's still in HS(14 years old) whos dating a 23 year old friend of mines. Then I thought how when I was in HS, the girls always talked about how we were too immature. Now Im starting to think it was just all BS.
So what do you all think?

Actually, girls think about it just as much as guys do, I hung around alot of girls in HS and I was also quiet(so quiet you wouldnt know I was sitting next to you) and i always heard girls talk about sex.

Girls? Mature? Only after getting their minds and hearts handed back to them. When you dont have to earn a mate.. life is too friggin' easy. These days, they dont even have any useful skills. Most cant cook, they arent funny or consistently cute. They're just fun to stare at, have some sex with and gawd forbid they're high maintenance. You'll never hear the end of it.

But there are plenty of awesome chicks. Sadly.. they're either ugly, doing porn or are into other chicks. Oh, or married already. Good luck thieving it from someone else who takes them for granted. It's not easy.. but honestly not all that hard, either.

it's wierd. when you are in high school, drinking, smoking, fucking and partying was a sign of maturity. but when you grow up and you do all those things, it can be seen as a sign if immaturity.

Even if girls did mature faster than guys. At the end of the day it doesn't mean they ARE more mature. Getting there quicker in the mature sector is different from being left behind once the opposite sex catches up.

There is a physiological case for this.
The higher testosterone levels present in young men can lead them to take more aggressive, risky (stupid, unescessary) behavior. This can be advantageous (athletes and physicists are sometimes at their greatest, most unihibited in their early 20's), or nor (see road fatalities).

This can make men seem less mature than women, who do not suffer this.

Interestingly when testosterone levels decline markedly (middle age), men anecdotally often go 'seeking that high'; cue midlife crisis, sports car and affair with secretary.
