Online for many many years now sine the late 1990s when people thought it was weird. I can't stand walking around shopping with sales assistants hassling you to sell you crap. Things online are also much better priced (especially games and dvds) and you can find exactly what you want (especially electronic goods) by reading the specs/description. I don't even buy new clothes anymore (wear my old ones till they wear out) but if I did it may be better to buy instore rather than online, also groceries although many people order them online to.

In store. Especially with clothing shopping, as I need to try stuff on. And I HATE the stupid ridiculous shipping costs to Canada. (example- was about to purchase a cat stand from Amazon. Cat stand retailed $134...shipping was $278. WTF?!) But avoiding lines and people at the mall is also pleasant too...nothing like shopping from the comfort of your bed, in your PJ's. Both have their pro's and con's.
