Early 20th century Russian pictures

My Penis Is Dancing!
Found on another thread: Seems that whenever we see pictures of the country before the 1915 Russian Revolution, the pictures are rather dreary black and white photographs.
Newsweek recently posted some pictures taken by Sergie Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii that are, to say the least, quite remarkable, as was his photographic technique (basically, he took the pictures three times, each time in a different singular color, in order to combine them). "Stunning" is an understatement for these pictures, as is surreal. To be honest, had I not been told these were 100-year-old photographs, I would have guessed some had been taken recently.
The color in some kind of remind me of the colorful brilliance of Doctor Zhivago.
Anyway, a bit of look back into history: http://www.newsweek.com/id/214585
