Ridiculous bickering.
That's what this thread has become.

No, Elian Gonzalez is not the the most "influencial" person of the 21st century!

Still, no excuse to begin a shitload of mudslinging

The Elian Gonzalez affair
I know, old news, but does it still influence so much today, so many lives today and for the last 8+ years?
Did it change world history as we know it?
I believe it did.

Think about it. Its like alternate timelines.
In the 2000 election Al Gore/Joe Lieberman lost the election by 537 votes in the state of Florida, which cost them the election.
At the time of the election so many Cuban Americans in Florida were very pissed off at Al Gore and the Democratic Party's handling of the whole Elian Gonzalez situation.
I think its safe to say that cost Gore at least 538 Florida votes and the Presidency.

Now the rest is of course subject to speculation.
Gore is President on Sept. 11.
Does it still happen?
If so what does he do?
Does he enter Afghanistan? Iraq?
Does he capture Bin Laden?
Does the country get attacked again?

Does he get re-elected in 2004?
Perhaps a republican wins.
Perhaps Guilliani ( that was his hot time), Perhaps McCain.

Brings us to Obama in 2008
Would he have ever even ran for PREZ?
Leiberman may have been the vice PREZ all the while.
Would Obama have one.

So many possibilities.......I do believe that that little kid changed the course of history immensely.

Whats your theory/s?

Utter nonsense!! Cuban-Americans in Florida who are anti-Castro vote GOPer in any event....still not sure why...Oh, I forgot, they're still disillusioned into thinking GOPers are going to invade Cuba and confiscate all of their money from Castro for them. Never mind the fact that the Obama administration has done more for them than any administration since the Castro era.....

Back to the point. If you're going to make all of these leaps based on the outcome of the Florida vote....I would say Nader first, Jeb second and the goofy fuck who designed that monstrosity of a butterfly ballot.

oh boy.
i just didnt think it was a leap by saying the elian thing cost gore 538 votes in florida in 2000, therefore changing the election outcome and the future.

First problem...what did Gore have to do with it...and it's doubtful many eligible Cuban-American voters switched based on EG.

Far more likely is the case there was some corruption and/or Nader.

It is hilarious though that you are apparently so obsessed by Obama winning that you're concocting goofy leaps about some kid sent back to his father....

EG's relatives had no right to guardianship over the kid and it's not our country's responsibility to sponsor kidnapping.

calpoon

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
Wouldn't Castro be the most influential person? If it wasn't for him than none of those 500 Cubans would be in Florida and they wouldn't have voted at all.

Fuck Elian Gonzales.

wow talk about assumptions
Obama is not on my mind about this.
even though he is the end result.
no need to be combative.

the incident happened in april 2000 during the presidential campaign Gore/Bush
Clinton and Reno sent in the SWAT team and shoved a gun in the boys face

Since when do you do that to enforce a custody order?
Al gore was very outspoken on this issue.
I believe the boy should have been with his father yes, but thousands of cubans in florida didnt.
Most were furious, escpeciially after the picture was shown.
They blamed the Democrats in charge.
I think its a no brainer that this thing cost Gore at least 538 votes out of the few hundred thousand of pissed off cubans in florida in 2000.

You can't have everything! Where would you put it?!
This topic started years before I ever posted on this board, but I will say this: it has a wonderfully provactive title which did get the conversation flowing. Hats off for that. If I could have a second comment, it would be that after such a great intro you should have left it at: discuss.
